The staff were very friendly and from the exterior you would think that this was a 4 star hotel. However, we should have heeded other reviewers advice. Our room on the 3rd floor which overlooked the Via Nazionale had double glazing that failed to work. Noisy was not the word!!. Everything that went on in the main road, from commuter going home at 5pm to the people going out during the evening and to the dustbins being emptied at 3am could be heard inside the room. The TV/Internet as published did not work. The TV side did, but everything else did not. Despite raising this fault 3 times over our 3 night stay, along with the fact that the door handle had fallen off, nothing was done about anything, and we know this as the disconnected leads that were behind the TV had not been moved. As for the facilities, well quite frankly there aren't any, other than the restaurant bar on the 9th floor. The American Bar on the first floor as advertised did not exist during our stay, so if you wanted to relax with a drink then you had to go to the restaurant/bar on 9th floor. But go with a loaded wallet!!!. Likewise, avoid room service, well actually not even room service. A bottle of house wine to take back to your room (which was purchased at the restaurant/bar), where the internet and in house movies do not work, will cost you 25 euro's.

We had previously stayed at the Quirinale. If you want a comparison then I would say the Quirinale is definately 4 star, La Griffe?, well I hope that you do not have to experience it to give your judgement.

Nice hotel, very well located, good service and fair price for Italy.
Design hotel, maybe renovated not long ago, an old and beautiful building.
On the third floor, room very spacious, in two levels. First level, a living room and a bathroom. Second level the beds and another bathroom. Breakfast at the terrace, an inspiration for the day to start with the top view of Rome.
Friendly staff at the front desk and a helpful doorman.
Did read the reviews of other trip advisors travelers and got very concern. In my opinion the hotel was very nice.

I stayed 4 nights in La Griffe Hotel on July 2007 with my girlfriend. The size of the room was fine but the bathroom was badly conceived. Apart from that I have only bad comments. he girl at the reception was arrogant. Employees were noisy and we were several time awoken by 7a.m !! Wall coverings and sockets were poorly fitted ! One day we visited the city all day and went back to the hotel only after having dinner. Surpringly the room was not made up. We went to the reception to complain where we were told that "rooms can't be cleaned if we stay in it all day long". I told that I was not on holidays in Rome to stay in my room and asked her to lower the voice and complained to the manager who barely listened to us.

Last week I was in Rome and stayed at Casa Montani, plaza del Popolo. It was perfect.

Beside it's goodlocation, the hotel has nothing else to offer. Our room was on the 8th floor - and none of the elevators was working. we used the stairs (8 floors) to go up and down !!!!!!! No one from the staff bothered to say sorry !!!

The hotel inside is very dark and cheap - Black walls, ceilings, etc.... The use the cheapest IKEA products ( cultery, pillows, etc...)

Our Room, had a nice view, but a terrible smell of fried food. We complained about it, and all what we got a few sprays out of a botlle of a terrible lemon scented air freshner !!! every night we had to smell it, our room was not far from their restaurant.

Noise: You can litteraly every single noise in the corridor ! we heard all the chats, goodmornings and goodnights. We couldn't sleep before 1 am due to the noise, we also had to wake up before 7 am, also due to the noise !

Vibrations: Our room was located directly below the restaurant (for breakfast and dinner) - we heard all the tables, chairs, and high-heels, moving on top of us. Constant vibrations !!!!

Breakfast: Forks and knives had a very bad smell !! - breakfast is very basic.

With all our complaints, we didn't receive any excuse from the hotel. We tried hard to change our room (Superior Room for 190 Euros a night ) but with no vain. They offered to change the room for an additional 120 Euros a night !!!!!!!

Really, the area is full of way better hotels. Don't book in this hotel, we have plenty of choice somewhere else !!!!!

The staff warmly greets you at their entrance.
The terrace is delightful for breakfast and dinner.
Rooms are different and unless you know the layout of your room (check it out before accepting it) you can be disappointed.
Room 223 and above ( I assume) are quite spacious & one level, Room 224 is very small. Many of the rooms are very tiny and have terrible bathroom features such as the shower (some are miniscule) which floods the floors. Not all rooms come with a bathtub either. Some rooms are 2 levels with an unsafe glass spiral staircase which leads right to the bed. Also a pain for getting your luggage up to the sleeping area. Not too much room to manuver around the bed because the space from the bed to the staircase is bare minimum. Need additional pillows because their pillows are quite thin but the blankets are super and and mattresses are pretty good.
Staff responds slow to room difficulties. Cannot change money at the desk. Since breakfast starts at 7:00 am, a coffee machine would be a nice addition,
I would not stay here again and I would do my homework much better in checking out hotel rooms. Would not recommend this place for an older American couple. Expected more from a 4 star place.
