My boyfriend and I stayed in this hotel in February 2005. We booked it through an internet package deal and only read the reviews on this page after we had paid. Suffice it to say I was extremely concerned and apprehensive.
I got the surprise of my life when we arrived and we had a large, clean, quiet room. The bathroom was certainly not the worst I have seen in a three star hotel, yes the showers are old but they are powerful enough to do the job. The area the hotel is in is supposed to be dodgy but we walked into the city and back both nights and we saw nothing at all to cause us any concern and we didn't feel threatened in any way. It is close to a tube station and like a previous review said it is only a 15 minute walk to the colliseum. I recommend walking everywhere as we did mostly and we saw some lovely sights we would have missed by just getting the tube to places all the time. It is fair to say you get what you pay for and as long as you don't expect a palace you shouldn't be disappointed. BTW we didn't try breakfast so cannot comment on that.

I stayed here in February 2005 for 1 night.

I had a room booked in Hotel Bled in the next building for 4 nights but for some reason they put in Daniela for the first night.

The single room at the top floor was so minimally little that I couldn't open my suitcase on the floor!

The walls were so thin that I woke up in the middle of the night because a person in the next room snored!

There were people sleeping on the street right next to the hotel!

There was no information on the hotel and services whatsoever in the room.

The breakfast was good, though, better than in Hotel Bled!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Daniela for 10 nights last summer and I find it really bizarre reading the reviews here. We had a brilliant time and found the hotel to be fantastic. The rooms were spacious, cleaned daily, with lovely fresh bed linen and the bed itself was extremely comfortable.

As for the location, the hotel is on a quiet street near to some fabulous traditional Italian restaurants. It is within walking distance to the Colosseum (15 mins) and other attractions in that area. Also within walking distance is San Lorenzo with it's great restaurants. We walked to most places, and had we visited during a cooler time of year (instead of August - hottest time of year - during a heat wave) we would have been able to walk to the majority of the main attractions.

There is also the tube which is cheap and convenient if you prefer not to walk.

horrible, horrible, horrible. This could be the worst hotel I have ever visited. The people at the front desk are extremely rude and not helpful. The beds extremely uncomfortable and the walls paper thin. We could hear everything that was going on in rooms around us, even people couging, sneezing, talking, etc. This is definately NOT a 3 star hotel by any means.

We booked the "DANIELA" via Expedia and got a double room in the main building for about EURO 130,- per night during the 2004 easter week (which is peak season in Rome). The hotel surroundings are quite good and safe, one should only avoid walking to the central station or the Vittorio Emanuelle place at night. Take the Metro station MANZONI instead or walk to San Giovanni in Laterano and take a bus to the city.
This is maybe the greatest disadvantage of the DANIELA, it is not in walking distance to the city centre (but you save a lot of money).

Our room was clean (very clean for mediterranean standards), the bathroom freshly renovated. However, taking a shower is not the greatest pleasure (nearly no water) and the mattress is not the most stable one. For Rome standards our room was very quiet - only minor street noise - but yes, the room doors are not very sound deadening.

The breakfast buffet was ok, the breakfast room is located in a catacombe like surrounding. There are warning signs not to leave any valuables in your room. We followed this advice and/or carefully hided our belongings (no hotel thief wants to waste too much time). I am not sure if the hotel staff is responsible because it is very simple to open the windows and doors from the outside.

Concluding I would rate the DANIELA as average, next time I would try to find a hotel in the city centre and pay the additional EURO 50-80 per night, but this depends on your preferences.
