We had read all the reviews on this site about the hotel so knew it was going to be fairly good but it was even better than we imagined. The outside of the hotel was lovely and close to the Manzoni metro stop (you have to walk down one leafy residential road). The front courtyard was very cute. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful (and spoke excellent english) The room was lovely, i suppose it may seem on the small side to some but it was great for us. It was very clean and was cleaned every day. The bathroom was gorgeous. We had a room that was facing the back (23) and had no noise to disturb us, if you opened the window you could hear the traffic but when closed it was silent.
The room was airconditioned, had a tv and a fridge stocked with alcohol and soft drinks(not badly priced either) It would have been even better if they had included a kettle and some tea/coffee but im not sure if you should expect this in a 3 star.
Breakfast was really good there was the usual continental selection and bacon and eggs! The coffee was excellent! The breakfast was on for a good amount of time (7.30-10am) which would suit anyones routine i would have thought.
I felt very secure in this hotel as the front gate was locked and you had to be buzzed in.
There was some work being done to the hotel when we were there but apart from the evidence of tools etc there was never any noise or disruption while we were in (maybe they did it during the day when most people would be out but generally we didnt go out till after 10am and there was no noise up to then)
This hotel far exceeded expectations and i would recommend it to anyone. i believe they have an interconnecting room aswell so that would be perfect if we went back with our three children.
Having a nice hotel makes a holiday even if you just use it as a base, having somewhere nice to come back to with staff that are plentiful and helpful just makes it perfect.

My boyfriend and I went to Rome last September to celebrate his birthday. We did a lot of research and finally decided to stay at Emona based on the positive reviews and the photos and info on the hotel website. However, we were quite disappointed.

Prior to our stay, I wrote to the email as shown on the website and explained the purpose of our stay and asked if we could have something extra and I was ready to pay. Here's a part of what I wrote to them -

"I'd like to see if it is possible to have a nicer room for us, maybe a room with a better view or more romantic kind of decor? I would really appreciate any sort of support as I really want to make this birthday special for him and for us. Also, does your hotel sell chocolate cakes? I'm trying to see if I can get him some in the hotel, or near the hotel."

Unfortunately, I did not hear anything at all from the hotel. There was no reply. I would understand if the hotel told me they couldn't do anything, I was really looking forward to a reply, especially after the nice comments regarding customer service that I'd read. I didn't get any.

The room was the biggest disappointment - they gave us a room on the ground floor. The room was nothing like what you see on the website. It was dark and really basic. As our room faced the entrance, it was bright outside at night as well and we didn't feel all that comfortable even with the curtains, if they were considered proper at all. The shower was a bit funny as well, it was really hot for one second then cold the other. The room was certainly overpriced.

Location wise it wasn't that big a problem for us though as we enjoyed walking around to see the city. It wasn't all that far from the nearest subway station anyway. The breakfast and the lounge were both OK as well.

Enoma is suitable for single travellers not looking for a "nice stay" but a simple one with minimal facilities.

We stayed at the hotel Emona for 4 nights in September. We had a standard room on the 2nd floor. In my opinion, this hotel was NOT cheap...but then again, nothing in Europe is cheap.

We walked to the hotel from the Rome train station which took about 20 minutes (with luggage). It's in a quiet part of town. In my opinion, it's not in the most glamorous part of town. In fact, the area is a bit seedy.

The hotel room was ready when we arrived in the afternoon. There was no elevator, so we had to lug our two big luggages up the marble stairs!

The room was a nice size, clean, with a queen size bed. The bathroom was also a nice size. The main problem is the bathroom! There was no shower curtain! Every time we took a shower, there would be water all over the floor. Then, the bathroom would smell like mildew. They need to invest in some shower curtains because not everyone takes baths!! Also, hot water was not consistent. At best, water was luke warm. At worst, the water was freezing cold! Not sure what was going on with the plumbing.

We had a laptop computer with us. So, we were able to pick up a cable from the front desk and had internet connection in our room which was a bonus. I saw others using a common computer by the breakfast area.

Breakfast was nothing to rave about. They did have bacon and eggs!

The hotel was not located in a central area. It is about a 20 minute walk to the Colisseum. 5 minutes to the metro station.

Overall, the hotel was just ok. Next time I will be staying at a hotel slightly closer to the center of Rome and where they have shower curtains!

Management response from hotelaquaeductus, Managing Director
(Management representative)
Dec 23, 2008
Dear Madame and Sir,
we would like to thank you very much for the review left.
We are pleased in reading suggestions and find the way to improve our standards and learn how to satisfy our Guests,
We'are sorry that you walked 20 minutes from the station, but we can tell to all of our guests that there is a bus, number 105 and a tram, number 14 that bring you directly at 150mts from our hotel (Porta Maggiore stop).
If you noticed near the stairs there is an iron structure, that is the basement of the projected elevator, that will be working in the hotel from April 2009; our concierge usually helps guests to bring the luggage, maybe that time he was busy, and we do apologize for that.
After your suggestion we have furnished all the bathrooms with new curtains to avoid water going out.
During your holiday days unfortunately we had some problems with the hot water boiler that now is fixed.
We are aware that we are not located near the spanish steps, but we are 20 minutes walking from the colossum and our area is
an ancient one near the roman aquaeductus entrance in Porta Maggiore, and if you take a bus or a metro you can reach all the main sightseeing in a few minutes. Our area is quiet and allows our guests to find pizzeria and restaurant to spend a nice evening sharing tables with romans.
Kindest Regards,

Maria - Managing Director

We stayed 4 nights at the hotel. We booked a superior room but for the first night they only had a standard room. Not to worry though, on the second day they moved all our stuff to our new room. I can definetely recommend the superior room option. This is a great choice for a cheaper hotel in Rome. Breakfast is very good and the interior of the hotel has recently been refurbished.
Location wise it's Ok, the neighbourhood it is in is a bit boring, but the nearest metro station is only 5 minutes walk away and the Colesseum an easy 15 minute stroll. Very recommended!

  • Liked — Standard of accomodation and breakfast for price and location
  • Disliked — Didn't have superior room available first night even though we booked it

We stayed 4 nights in this hotel and we had a great time. The staff was very helpful and friendly and gave us the best advice and information for the area. The room was very clean and we had a beautiful view from our window. The room service was excellent, too. The breakfast, also, was not very big but offered a variety of products. The internet access is free.
The only problem is that the hotel hasn't an elavator, so you must carry your things if you are given a room upstairs. And finally if I had to give one advice to the owner and the staff , would be to renovate the external of the building as it has some damages and destroys the external view of this beautiful villa.
Generally, the hotel is close to the center, as it has the main train station and a metro station nearby, but far from the noice and the crowds of tourists. It is a very good choice. Try the restaurant which is few metres from the hotel at the same street. It's food is delicious!
