We stayed at the Caravel on 14 - 16 March. Hotel was clean and tidy. Not in the city centre, but only 10 minute walk from Metro and then a 10 minute metro journey. Bus stop just a few minutes away. Plumbing was noisy as were some of the other guests (on the Saturday night). Hotel is on a busy street with lots of traffic - although we were not facing the road and it wasn't too bad. Continental breakfast was very good. Alcohol prices not bad for hotel, but barman did try to over-charge us and was seen doing the same to another customer - so check bills! All in all, this hotel just about did the trick for our purpose (rugby Italy v Wales) for the price paid.

I was thre twice. Always at winter. It has good heating. ( At Rome sometimes it's problem) The normal price is expensive, but via octopustravel, or hotelopia you can find 50-60€ nights/room price, what is friendly.

a very enjoyable stay, room was clean and tidy and linen changed every day, staff were polite and would deal with any enquries as best they could. Hotel is not city center location but is only a 10 minute bus journey to the the major sights

I would love to say that everything had been perfect because it very nearly was, we had four separate beds in our room, the bar man was exraordinarily helpful and did his utmost to provide food for my picky eaters on the Sunday evening of our stay... the room was clean and comfortable although basic ... the 10 min bus ride to the sights was easy and gave us all a chance to leave the busy days behind and chill for a while...alas the last night let the hotel and their staff down!

A watch which was by that time a five day old christmas present went missing from the room...along with a few euros which had been left in a drawer... the evening was further spoiled by a rowdy bunch of 12 young Italians who despite several knocks on the wall and staff calls refused to behave appropriately and brought the tradition of 'Roman Orgies' so often quoted as being part of ancient Rome's colourful history back to life in the room next door to ours... this was not good when in the company of two children who could hear everything!! and we all needed to be up for an early flight the next day!

Although there were many complaints through the night from us and other guests about the noise the party continued until silly o clock in the morning which was unacceptable and we were told at one point during the night to go and sort them out ourselves by the receptionist!!

Hopefully the hotel will review their group bookings to ensure such issues are avoided in the future.

I have given an overall rating of 3 because I am hopeful the incidents were isolated and I want to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt....but beware.

Incidentally Rome was very average compared to other European cities as many of the best sites are stuck between busy roads and back streeets full of bins and grafitti... but Vatican City was extraordinarily 'moving' despite the crowds and I would love to go again, but that would probably be as part of a cruise stop soI would not need to stay in Rome...

My boyfriend and I stayed for a week in Rome and really enjoyed our time there. The Caravel hotel was fine, the bus stop is very close and tickets are sold at the reception; we did find it a bit hard to get a bus back from the city centre later in the evenings (past 10:30).

The hotel was clean and I was surprised by how large the room was. The bed was pretty hard, not all that comfortable. It was useful to have a fridge and safe in the room. Even though we were on the top floor of the hotel and towards the back, the noise from the traffic was bad, plus you could hear people moving around in their rooms etc - obviously not very soundproof! There was a huge balcony too, but no table or chairs out there and some rubbish (left by previous guests) went untidied - not much of a view anyway.

We found the staff friendly enough and the hotel is not bad, but if we visit Rome again we may aim to stay somewhere a little more central.
