After reading mixed reviews I took a chance on this hotel. The location was perfect for us as we could walk to all the main sights. We even walked to the Vatican taking about 40 minutes; I chose a route through some very amazing streets. Don’t forget the national art gallery just at the end of the road. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, however we heard one argument at the check in desk but the guest was in the wrong making a totally un-realistic request, embarrassing. The hotel has many creative and character-full touches and was reasonably clean. My only criticism was the noise factor, not so much the outside road (remember this is a busy city), but other guests. Ok the walls are thin but why are people so utterly oblivious to the noise they make, slamming doors, shouting down the corridor to friends three rooms away, phone calls back home (again they shout because it’s a long way!?) and putting on TV’s at 3am full blast. Rant over, give it a try but check which accommodation you booked and are being put into the hotel or the B&B.

Hotel Julia was recommended by our parents and that made me a bit nervous at the start. When we arrived I was so grateful. Everyone says the Trastavere district is a great spot but this really can't be beat. You're only minutes walk from the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and right on the open air bus route. There is a great pizza spot at the end of the street just to grab a bite. Definitely ask for a room in the back if it's available. Like anywhere in Rome things can get a little noisy if you're close to the street.
The bathroom was also another added bonus - huge by European standards. To top it all off it was a really great rate for the location and room size.

This very charming and quiet Hotel is extremely well located (2 mn from the Trevi fountain and one of the subway station). The staff is very nice, open minded, welcoming and helpful, the rooms are small, but comfortable with air conditioning (especially valuable in august !) and breakfast enjoyable. The ensurance to spend a nice stay in Rome.

I've stayed there on my first trip to Rome and I've chose it because of the location (2-3 minutes to metro, 3-5 minutes to fontanna de Trevi, about 10 minutes walk to Spanish Steps).
Staff was quite friendly, but the room! Room was dusty ans smelling strange, with outstretched arms I could nearly touch both walls so the room was not more than 2 meters wide, but was long , (part of the space near window was used for bathroom so the room was very dark. Bathroom was very little but clean with towels and hairdryer. I had shared shower where was no hot water, although I have complained nothing was done during my 3 day stay (I had to use shower on the other floor)
Bed was really hard so I couldn't sleep. Walls there are thin co I could hear very well conversation of my neighbours.
Breakfast : bread rolls and pastry which seemed to be made at least day before, some kind of ham and cheese, jam and poor coffee. There are many hotels in Rome so it wouldn't be wise to stay in Julia ….

The Good:
Good location, staff very friendly. Room pretty nice. Bathroom pretty nice also. Free wi-fi although see below...

The Bad:
Wi-fi is possibly the worst i've ever had. Drops out & forces you to sign back in every 10 mins or so or when you are half way through a credit card confirmation, whichever comes first.

Bring ear plugs!! walls seem to be very thin so noise from neighbours, and for my room, noise from street, until late and then starting again early (during the week that is).

Double room was 105e including breakfast. Breakfast not bad, cereal, juice, pastries/sweet croissants, bread rolls, jam etc. No fruit though :( Overall, not recommended. Rome may be expensive, but I don't think this place was worth it, especially when compared to Hotel Cavour.
