Not a great hotel. It has tiny rooms and very thin walls -- you can hear everything in the next room and the corridor. At breakfast you have to stand in line for a long time to be seated - they do not have enough tables in the small breakfast room. The service at breakfast is very poor -- they don't restock the trays for ages, so you would be waiting for your cheese or juice for half an hour! It is a very poor selection at breakfast too. The only good thing about this hotel is the location but it is far too expensive for what it offers.

Our first visit to Rome and loved the city, it's amazing!

Everyone is different in what they want from a hotel but in our case on this trip we wanted something central and at a good price. We weren't dissapointed. After a bit of a struggle to find it, due to my poor map reading skills I must admit we arrived at about 11pm. The hotel was situated on a quiet (well quiet for Rome) back street which suited us well.

We had a nice friendly welcome and made our way to our room. It wasn't the biggest room ever but plenty big enough for us and we weren't there for the room! The bathroom didn't have a window so had a bit of a musty smell but it was clean. But again the hotel wasn't the most expensive so you take the rough with the smooth.

In the morning they offered a good continental breakfast and the service was good too. Although it did sometimes get a little crowded.

The friendly guy on reception had been replaced by the most misserable guy in the world, whether he is still there or not I don't know but he really didn't enjoy his job. But not being easily offended I just found it ammusing!

We spent 3 nights there and the rooms were quiet at night and the beds compfy enough. The position of the hotel within 10 mintues walk of the major sites its the massive factor in choosing it. With so much to see in such a small amount of time being in the thick of it really helped. But the hotels position on a back street meant once you'd finished your day you really felt like you'd left it all behind.

There are some nice little places to eat around and about as well and if you investigate them it might well save you a fortune!

I would love to go back to Rome sometime and would consider this hotel again as a definate option!

I stayed here for 4 nights in Jan 09. As all the reviews say, which is why I chose the place, is the location. A 2 min walk from the Trevi Fountain, maybe 3 min walk to the Metro stop, and 15 Min walk to the Colloseum and all that surrounds it. The room and bathroom was pretty clean, wasnt a 4 or 5 star by any means, and the breakast was ok. The staff was friendly. Like all the Hotels I stayed in over there, it was a little noisy at night, I wore earplugs, and it was ok then. They have free wireless in the lobby, but mine worked in my room, so that was a bonus. Id stay here again mainly cause it was a decent price and the location couldnt be beat. I ventured all over Rome by myself, and it all seemed pretty safe, the area where this Hotel is, is always full of people walking the streets, and I was never concerened.

Overall, this hotel was fine. It wasn't the worst hotel I've ever stayed in but it certainly was nowhere near the best.

Pros:
Location-this is probably the best feature of the hotel. It is so central, only got the metro once and other than that walked everywhere.

Clean-hotel room was spotless

Shower-was really powerful.

Cons:
The noise-this for me was the biggest factor. The hotel room was stifling hot(in January!!) and the radiator couldn't be turned off so we had no choice but to have the window a little open(it didn't close properly anyway so we couldn't have closed it). From 7.30 every morning the noise outside was crazy. I realise the outside noise was outside the hotels control but when we asked about changing to a different room they moved to us to the exact same room a floor up!!! Had lost the will to fight it at this stage and the second room wasn't so hot so we could leave the window closed.

The staff- I have to say that the staff at the hotel were quite abrupt, they were never rude but just not friendly at all. I asked the first night about where the nearest internet cafe was and was told that there was a computer available for guests use. Great perk which I really appreciated. I was waiting on an urgent e-mail so once each day asked if I could use the internet and each time felt like I was bothering them. By the 4th day of my stay I felt so uncomfortable asking that I just found an internet cafe instead.

Breakfast- practically non-existant. Croissants, corn flakes and some juice might be left if you were lucky. Not a major issue but certainly not a selling point of the hotel.

Overall, the hotel was fine and you get what you pay for but next time I travel to Rome I would sooner pay a little extra for something that bit "nicer"

Hotel Julia is in a great location. It is close to the metro, buses and favorite sights but it is on a side street (quiet). I only needed to stay one night. I was able to throw my bags down after traveling from a 7 day stay in Assisi. I booked the hotel knowing that I wanted to make it to the Spainish Steps to see the Pope for the Immaculate Conception and on a budget.

The front desk was helpful, offering a map of Rome and a bottle of water.. The Spainsih Steps were just a few blocks away, alowing me to walk & be part of this event. In addition, I had plans to meet friends at Piazza Navona for dinner later in the evening. I returned to the hotel to refresh and then headed out again for a short, lively walk to the Trevi Fountain & then Piazza Navona. I opted to take a taxi the short ride back to the hotel after dinner wich only cost me 6 euro.

The room wasn't the prettiest or most comfortable but it served my purpose. I also booked knowing breakfast was included. When I woke early (6:30) the front desk offered me cofee but no breakfast because I was too early?? They did arrange a taxi to get me to the airport which arrived on time @ 7.

  • Liked — The very convenient location and quiet side street, helpful front desk, coffee.
  • Disliked — No breakfast before departure at 7 am, room dark and overall unattractive.
