The location is really good - about 5 minutes to the Trevi fountain and lots of nice restaurants. There is no need to book a tourist bus tour because all the major sights are in walking distance (Colosseum, Vatican 15-20 minutes)

If you book this hotel make sure that you ask for a quiet room. A friend of mine arrived before us and got a really noisy room. When we checked in we requested a quiet room. We were lucky that we got one because they told us that we should have requested a quiet room when we booked. The mattress in our bed was really, really terrible, so if you have back problems that might not be the right place for you.

Not all rooms have A/C, so make sure you request a room with A/C when you book.

The staff were very polite and helpful. The price in September was really high (170 Eur/night), but they occasionally have weekend offers. You have to email them to get these offers. We also noticed that the Domus Julia (a B&B which belongs to the hotel) is a bit cheaper and it's right next door. It's worth sending an email to ask for the price of both the hotel and the B&B. We received replies to our emails withing 12 hours and with the special offer paid about 120Eur/night.

Stayed 4 nights at Hotel Julia in August at the start of the three week trip around Italy. The location was great, it was clean & quiet and that is all there is to rave about.

The location was fantastic. 5mins walk to the Trevi, Via Del Corso, Spanish Steps. Piazza Venizia and other sites are not very much further. Plenty of food, shopping, transport & conveniences around the corner.

The room was tiny with a tiny window overlooking a back street. The bathroom was functional and clean like the room. No fridge however there was a barely functioning airconditioner. Bed was small and uncomfortable. The room was quiet apart from some repeated door banging early one morning.

The breakfast was terrible! While all hotels in Italy only do continental style breakfast, this was by far the worst we had. The breadrolls were disgusting and looked like an insect nest inside! (affectionately known thereafter as 'insect bread'), some lousy ham, plastic cheese, sour yoghurt and dishwater coffee. Ham, cheese & coffee are impossible screw up in Italy!!!!

We rarely spent any time in the room but made full use of the convenient location but not much else. Staff were reasonably friendly but not very helpful with information. They did not even know that there is a laundromat/internet point in the next street over.

My advice would be to skip breakfast, enjoy the location but try to get the best deal possible as you do not get much for your money apart from location. We paid €88/night mid August but refused to pay €135/night when we tried to book a night in September on our way out.

Rome is a complete rip off at every instance so I would be hard pressed to suggest an alternative really. I read the reviews but was not quite ready for how far below average it was.

The location of this hotel is fantastic, which is what you pay for. It is walking distance from nearly everything but the Vatican and the Coliseum, which can be easily reached via the subway. The rooms are very basic and the breakfast left a lot to be desired. However, it was quiet, comfortable and a good value if you are not planning on spending a lot of time in your room.

A friend recommended this hotel to us and I booked it directly via email with the hotel.

We stayed at Hotel Julia in Rome from June 15-20. We travelled to Venice and Florence and returned to stay for 2 more nights at Hotel Julia again before returning home to Canada. The location is extremely convenient - very close to the major sites: Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, and Piazza Venezia (all within 15 minutes walking distance). Breakfast was fine, basically pastries, bread , cereal, juice and coffee. Since we have travelled to Venice and Florence, we now realized that the continental breakfast is the norm - travellers should be aware that it is not breakfast buffet like it is in London & Paris.

The staff were excellent. We had a problem with our shuttle payment (we paid the driver instead of the hotel - which was my own mistake, as the instructions from the hotel specifically advised us to pay at the hotel). The reception staff (and I apologize for not getting his name) was extremely helpful. He called the shuttle booking service numerous times, followed up with them to ensure that we did not have to pay the shuttle service again; we recognized that this is our mistake and the staff has really gone out of his way to help recover the payment.

The rooms size are fine (we stayed at 2 different rooms on 2 different floors for our 2 stays). The bathroom size is fine, but the shower stall in 1 of the rooms we stayed in was tiny, so be prepared that it may be a tight fit. Water pressure and temperature were great. There is a hairdryer and ventilation. The street was quiet so the rooms were as well, but you do hear others showers and doors -- the walls are thin, so beware. We do feel very secure and safe.

Overall, we rated the facilities to be good and the service excellent. I will certainly recommend that hotel to my friends.

This was our second stay at the Julia. We knew from our previous visit that the rooms weren't anything special.

However, this time I really noticed that the beds were terrible-- springs in my back, it was very loud, and the breakfast after staying at other hotels left a lot to be desired.

The location is good though--- easy walking distance to the Metro, Trevi, and Spanish Steps.

I just don't think I would stay here again. The bed was just too uncomfortable and our double room was just way too small.
