After a few years we recently returned to the Ranieri. To our surprise we found that the general areas of the Hotel had been remodeled and improved. The old grey entrance has completely changed and the reception which used to be on the second floor has been relocated to the ground floor. Also there is a new breakfast room which looks great. Staff was still as friendly as before. We had asked for a quiet room so we were at the back and had no view at all but the room was nicely fitted and very clean (we liked the Bang&Olufsen TV set in our room!). The free Wi-Fi worked fine in the lounge area but not in our room. We believe the hotel has a good price/quality ratio and we will certainly return. The hotel is in the city center so parking was difficult. They did arrange for someone to pick up our rental and valet park it.

I have stayed at the Hotel Ranieri twice now and can definitely say I would book to stay there again for a trip to Rome. It's a basic hotel but with comfy rooms, clean bathrooms and very friendly staff. I can't praise the staff highly enough, the concierges especially are polite, extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast is good with a range of breads, sweet pastries, cereals, cold meat, cheeses, juices, coffees, teas. It's only a few minutes walk from the Piazza Repubblica and the Fontana Dell'Acqua Felice. As such, if looking for an English Mass in Rome is also very convenient, with an American congregation located in Santa Susanna, across the road from the fountain. It's about a 15 minute walk from the Trevi Fountain (if that) and the same to Santa Maria Maggiore. There is a number 62 bus about 150m down the Via XX Settembre from the hotel which goes directly to St Peter's Square.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to my friends for a value for money place to stay in Rome.

I was a little concerned reading what others had said about the hotel, but it is obvious that the hotel is putting some money into the facility. There was a new front desk right off the street, no more 2nd floor check in. The staff all spoke English very well and were very accomodating. Actually the best I received in my two weeks in Italy. The breakfast was excellent with a wide variety of items in a newly created breakfast room. The internet connection was free and located in a cozy sitting area where drinks were also served. The beds were memory foam and really comfortable. The rooms were typically small, but very comfortable. My best stay in Italy.

Disappointed on arrival as we were "overbooked" at the nearby Medici Hotel - never a good start to a break you have been looking forward to in a City you have never visited before! So mood was not good when entering the room, which was facing the inner courtyard on the first floor with hardly any daylight (a bit like an inside cabin on a cruise ship which we would never book!). However, we ventured out to the city after a quick freshen up - and found ourselves hitting the main government building almost immediately down the road with obvious VIPs visiting. Rome really is an amazing city but you need good walking sandals/trainers to feel comfortable for the many many miles you need to walk! Word of warning - you need tickets for all travel prior to hopping on buses & trains that you can obtain at the local Termini newsagent for 4 euros giving all day travel. Best value was the open air bus tours where you can hop on and off to see all the attractions for around 16 euros each, over 24 hours - and provides a good rest!
Back to the dark room in the evening to freshen up again (good bathroom but wobbly shower) before dinner, and visited the restaurant around the corner (opposite the Medici) for an average meal. Best restaurant of the 4 days was the rooftop at the Hotel Forum (recommended before we went) where we hit on a special evening promoting Soave wine by the vineyard owner - excellent food and wine! Breakfast next morning was as we expected - a very fair continental help yourself type, but plenty! The British don't like them because they do tend to be aimed for the sweet tastes, but cheese and ham was available. Friendly and efficient service available if required. Returned home to watch Roman Holiday DVD with Gregory Peck & Audrey Hepburn to relive our memories of the wonderful sites we saw - not quite so busy in those days though!

I have stayed at Ranieri 5 or 6 times over the last 13 years and have always found it to be a good bargain. It is clean and the staff is courteous and helpful. Luana and Diego take care of their guests and Carlo makes a divine cappuciino!
