The hotel is adequate as a base camp for exploring Rome. It was clean, compact and offered basic facilities. We booked 4 double rooms for our group and all were clean, though one of the rooms had a very strong smell of smoke. The rooms had a large comfortable double bed, tv (only CNN in English), mini bar and safe. The bathroom had a shower, loo and sink. One little point was that the only power sockets were next to the door and in the bathroom meaning you had to take turns to charge phones, cameras etc. The breakfast was basic, but you could help yourself to as much as you liked.
The reception staff were very helpful and ordered taxis etc which always arrived within minutes.
The main plus point for the hotel is it's location. It is a short 2 minute walk to a main square which is on the route of the hop on hop off bus services. We only used this once as we walked to most places.
If you are planning to go to the vatican and the colloseum, which I strongly recommend you do, you can book cabs to get there early, which were very reasonably priced. We booked our Vatican tour through 'Myvaticantours.com' this meant we joined the group at 9.15am to jump the HUGE queue and enjoyed a brilliant 3 hour tour. I can't recommend this highly enough! Our group ranged from 11yrs to adult and everyone loved the tour. The Colleseum is also a great visit, but again, get there for it opening at 9 or you'll queue for ages. There are regular guided tours beginning at 9.45 and lasting an hour. Take the time to wander over the road after your visit to the forum and gardens.
We had a wonderful jam packed 3 days in Rome and we will be going back again soon as it was just so beautiful and an amazing experience.
