Went to Rome in the end of February, 2009 (5 nights), for the first time having organised all trip independently. Weather was good, but little bit cool. In the afternoon the temperature of air from 7 to 15 degrees, in the first days fell to-1 so it was necessary to put on a beret and gloves in the evening. The rain was once, went hour 2. Hotel has chosen too independently on responses on http://www.tripadvisor.com. The hotel has liked, all corresponded to responses (if, as always, to reject extreme opinions).
It occupies a part of a usual apartment house in the centre of Rome, on each ladder platform of each floor 3 sound wooden doors: directly opposite to an exit from the lift an input in a hotel corridor from which there are doors to numbers, and to the right and on the left doors of apartments in which there live the Roman citizens (see the photo). The system of electronic keys Everywhere works-at an input from a ladder, at an input in number.
Advantages, important for me:
1. An excellent arrangement: in 200 metres from via Nazionale (used buses much) and in 500 metres from Termini (was going to go for one day to Florence).
2. Pure silent number (5 floor) in which there is a table, a minibar, a case, the TV, the safe, a teapot and tea-coffee-sugar, the conditioner (which I periodically included on heating). The window left directly on opera theatre-beauty. A bathroom with a per capita cabin which in the sizes is quite convenient, a dryer for towels and with all necessary [--] which worked. Towels changed every day.
3. Good sound insulation if only neighbours did not rustle in a corridor about my door. And when all were in numbers-silences. Only, sometimes someone silently played music behind a wall, probably, the neighbour-Roman. It was very lovely!
4. A breakfast: flakes of 2 kinds, yoghurt (tasty), sausage , cheese (triangles in a foil), oil (it was not pleasant to me, has bought and ate the). Batches - my favourite pie with spinach (the dough as for a pizza) - super! Any fruitcakes and pies (2-3 kinds), croissants, simple rolls (1 kind), all fresh, warm. Fruit-oranges, apples, bananas. Juice. And at last, the waiter brings coffee - by request. Cappuchino it is very good, once tried chocolate, too it is tasty.
5. In a hall always in an easy approach 3 computers with Internet connection.
6. Since I do not know English, and I speak in French a little, for me it was important, that one of employees on reception spoke in French.
7. The kind personnel though no problems at me existing and to check up them in a stressful situation it was not necessary, and thank God!
8. Presence shuttle the airport-hotel and hotel-airport at the price of 14 euros (in one party).

Lacks, for me not having special value:
1. A room and a bathroom small on the area.
2. A floor everywhere stone, that is good, probably, in a heat. And when the temperature and reaches in the evening to-1 it is cold at night. So take warm socks.

stayed at the Hotel Sonya from 24th February for 4 nights. We had a very good sized room (with three beds) kettle, with tea , coffee and sugar, (milk was in the mini bar firdge) safe in wardrobe, and a big bathroom with shower. A big bonus was the huge bath sheet. Breakfast was delicious, fresh fruit, yogurt, rolls, cereal, ham, cheese, jams or chocolate spread, and finally cakes.
All the staff we met at Hotel Sonya could not have been more attentive.
Would love to come back again.

hello. we stayed here for a few nights and were thrilled with our choice. i had done a lot of research and got a great deal on the hotel's web page. i paid 102e for 2 nights b&b here for both of us. the hotel was fairly easy to find and only 10min walk from termini. its about 5mins walk from piazza republica for the hop on hop off buses and only 15min to piazza venezia or colliseum or trevi fountain. the room was spotless, bed and pillow were extremely comfortable. our room was at the front and opened onto a view of the opera house. breakfast was the usual pastries, cheese, ham and lovely cappucino all served in lovely small cozy dining areas. staff were friendly and helpful. i would definately stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

we found an absolutely faboulas pizza restaurant just of via nazionale. you can get onto this street by going down one of the side street oposite hotel sonya. turn left and keep going down, past eurostars hotel on left. there is a little street called via genova and the restaurant is the LAST on the left. try it, its amazing. also on via nazionale is a cute little church where we say the excellent la traviata. if you get to go there, do. its a real treat.

on rome - i could never never put into words what this city did for me. it is so amazing and nothing prepared us for its beauty and history. places like the forum, palatine hill, capitoline area, panteon, colliseum or largo di torre argentine just took our breath away. we were so overcome at times - thank you rome.

We've stayed with many hotels around the world from budget to 5 star world class hotels and for us cleanliness was one of the most important. And we would give it a 5/5 for cleanliness. We also enjoyed the very cute cozy self-serve breakfast with coffee and capucinno service.

My only problem I had was that the smell of cigarette would seep into the rooms when we opened the windows to get some air because the staff were just outside the building smoking whenever they can. And it's a pretty small room.

Management response from HotelSonya, Dott Stefano Tiribocchi - Hotel Sonya Web Manager
(Management representative)
Feb 23, 2009
Dear Guest,
we appreciated your reviews in order to improve our service to a better one. We always think about cleanliness as our first duty to our guests, as per our rich buffet breakfast.
We are very sorry about the fact that some people of our staff smoked outside the building, and we take several disciplinary measure to not have this fact happen again.
Thank You so much for your help, we hope to rehave you as our Guest.
Kindest Regards - Dott Stefano Tiribocchi - Hotel Sonya - Web Manager
