We were told the Termini area was seedy but we found it OK and the fact that all the buses trams underground stopped/started there made the location perfect.
The hotel was clean, quiet and the staff were very friendly. Breakfast was fine.
All in all the right spot for a long weekend sightseeing.

we stayed at the Hotel Mariano from the 20th-27th dec '08 and found the hotel brilliant, room was lovely,clean the only way they could improve would be to have tea,coffee facilities in room cos us brits love a cuppa at the end of the night! bed very comfy ,room cleaned every day. Breakfast was continetal buffet and was lovely! all the staff were friendly and very helpful and we really liked Giovanni he was so lovely and helpful was a pleasure to meet him and were very grateful for his help and advise! a very good base to explore the city and very close to train,metro and bus station.

This hotel is about 2 blocks away from the main train station and is very easy to get to. We were booked into a corner room, which I think was larger than most of the others. The room was normal to slightly above average in size for Europe, however, the bathroom was well above average, and it even had a bathtub. That was greatly needed to soak feet after walking so much in the city. We felt safe in the location, even walking around at night. About 3 blocks away was a very busy area with shopping and restaurants. The bed was comfortable, staff very friendly and spoke 5 languages. Breakfast was of breads, juices, yogurt, but no meats. Cheese was in the triangle foil type. The staff provided maps, suggestions, and an accurate wake up call. The hotel does have an elevator, which was useful. I would stay here again, especially for the price and location.

This hotel is a must for who intends to use the metro as is it only a street away from the station. Apart from that, Termini station is the main connection not just for Rome but for the train connection around Italy. It was very easy for us to continue our holiday in Naples for example.

Regarding the hotel, the staff is very friendly and the receptionists speak very fluent english. We had a very nice welcome, we were given a map on which the receptionist highlighted all the important landmarks of Rome. It was of great help to us.

The rooms are rather small but enough to feel comfortable in it. Both the hotel and the rooms are very clean. Breakfast is basic which means fresh croissant and bread, biscuits, orange juice, tea and coffee. Jams, butter, spreadcheese and others are at your choice.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who needs a basic accomodation because you would have a pleasant stay in Rome for sure.
