Based on the reviews here, I booked 4 nights with my gf. Perfectly located, easy walking access to Termini and local supermarkets and restaurants.
There seemed to be about 7 different receptionists working there, each as helpful as the other.
My gf's luggage did not arrive with her, and the hotel made the necessary phone calls for us and received the luggage in our absence. They also were helpful calling venues for ticket information.
Breakfast was a bit boring by the second day, but it is pleantiful with fresh youghurt, coffee, juices, bread and pastries, cereals, fruit and müselli, cheese, ham,. salami. When the automatic coffee machine was non-operational, someone was making real espressos for us. No complaints whatsoever.
The reception has a computer with internet in the cramped receptionist's space, and they allowed me access to get my email etc. They also allowed me to connect my netbook via ethernet cable when I needed VPN access. WiFi is installed but not yet operational, so that negative will disappear in time.
I guess the only negative was that the rooms are not as soundproof as one would like. I think mentioned by another reviewer as well. Small, but comfortable, with a mini-bar fridge that had plenty of space for my own purchases from the supermarket. I hate overstocked mini-bars with no space.
So, overall, the Hotel Select was an oasis of service, in the disaster zone that is Rome.
Hint: Don't eat at Florians on the square - it is everything the Hotel Select is not. Overpriced, slow, grumpy service with food of average quality. Head around the block to some cheaper, far better eateries if you need a quick meal.
