I stayed at the Hotel Valle in September 2007. Let’s get the negative stuff out of the way first. I booked through their website which offered a number of services that were not available: no bar, no room service and no safe in the room. If you’re after the services they advertise you may want to check with the hotel direct – especially if you need the babysitting.

And if you have a room that overlooks Via Cavour – be warned, it can be very noisy because of the amount of traffic throughout the day and night.

I wanted to do the negative stuff first because the lack of a bar is not really a concern. If you fancy a nightcap close to the hotel just pop into the Café Valeone (my preferred choice, really nice owner) or the Café de Brasil, both stay open till 11 o’clock (the Shamrock Pub, near the Forum, stays open till 2 am if you want to make a night of it).

The hotel was clean. My room was a fair size with an excellent bathroom. The staff was really helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast wasn’t bad either. Nice selection of cheese, meats and cereal.

For the price – the Hotel Valle can not be beat. The hotel’s location is excellent. Station Termini is a 10-15 min walk away – which is just not great for the trains, but also for the Terravision shuttle service to and from Campino airport.

The Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, The Collessium and Museo Capitalone are at the end of Via Cavour – a 10 minute walk away. The Panthelon, Spanish Steps, Arc de Augusta and Trevi Fountain can easily be reached on foot too. I walked to the Vatican from the hotel and that only took 25 leisurely minutes. And to be honest, you’ll miss out on a lot not walking.

If you do want to take the metro the Cavour stop is about 200 metres away. There is also a large post office 300 metres from the hotel (though you can buy stamps from most the tobacconist shops too).

It's a nice hotel, very near from metro station, the pesonell is ok, the room it's not very big, but it's clean, The main problem is the noise, if you have the "luck" the have your room's windows with the view in the main street, wou might hear some noise during the night or in the early morning. The breakfeast it's not very much, but it's enough. The main advantage is that the hotel is situated in the central way of the city and if you want to visit Rome, it is a good place to stay.Enjoy it. Stayed 4 nights in the Valle Hotel, the staff at the reception desk were very helpful, told us where to eat, what are the best sights etc. They take your passport on arrival for about 15 mins so that they can take the details for security reasons. The room was small but was comfortable & clean. Sheets changed every 2 days. Rooms cleaned every day & 5 clean towels every day (double room) in the bathroom. The wall was marked & does need painting but there was a homely feel to it & I would stay there again. It is a brilliant location. Metro & Termini practically on your doorstep, Rome isn't that big, walking is no problem to most of the sights. I would definately recommend this Hotel, it's not 5 star luxury but it's more than adequate & in probally the best location. Two other points to note...the wather in Dec was 16 degrees & Sunny...Fab !! & there is a chinese next door. Cheap, cheap, cheap & tasty !!

I had the opportunity to take my 14 year old daughter to Rome for vacation. Upon check at the Hotel Valle they asked for and kept our passports. We stay for 4 nights. Upon checkout I was not given our passports and I forgot to ask for them as I am not accustomed to this practice.
My daughter and I proceeded to Florence to continue our vacation, when I noticed we had forgotten our passports. I called the Hotel Valle and they were aware that they had forgotten to give me my passports. I asked if they could overnight them to me and I would pick up the cost. The front desk person gave me the number to DHL shipping and suggested that I initiate service. I contacted DHL, they do not accept anything other than cash or an Italian credit card. I contacted Hotel Valle again and asked if he would pay cash and charge my credit card for the shipping charges. It appeared as though he was trying to avoid any expense of money or time on his part . The front desk person had to ask the director and asked if he could call me back. On his return call, he said the director had approved shipment but that they would have to charge a hefty service fee. In frustration and on Principle, I purchased a train ticket for my daughter and I ,back to Rome (I couldn't leave her) to pick up the Passports. A whole day was ruined and it was costly. You would think that under the circumstances, they would have been more accomodating. What an inconvienence ! Don't stay here if customer service is important to you!!

We booked an Italian tour package from home, and needed to book a room in Rome for our first night and our last night in Italy. We stayed at Hotel Valle for both nights. The first night, was great, nice spacious room, with 2 beds, also had a lovely marble bathroom. Our window looked out onto Via Cavour which was nice. I thought that the front desk staff could use some lessons in customer service! Breakfast was quite good, but the dining area was very small, hard to accomodate a large number of guests. It was great to be within walking distance of so many historical attractions as well as Termini station!
When we returned from the southern coast to spend our last night at Hotel Valle, it was a very different experience! Our room was horribly small and cramped and smelled like rotten cabbage! The bathroom was so small, you could barely move around in it, and the shower/bath was very tiny. Our window looked onto some kind of courtyard of an apartment of some sort behind it where the occupants made lots and lots of noise!
Overall, I guess I would stay there again, but would insist on having a room that faced the road instead of the courtyard!
