Excellent hotel with nice atmosphere. They seem to do renovations and it created a funny effect: in our room (5th floor) the bathroom was new and excellent, which made the room look a bit shabby (it was nice and clean but not new). Otherwise good - the staff was friendly and nice.

We called an afternoon of the week before our arrival to this charming hotel in order to ask some info. From this point on the staff were very helpful with directions, and also by arranging the pick up at the airport, setting up travel arrangements for two tours, and booking a table at a nearby restaurant which was excellent (in the area there are many good ones at better prices if you compare with those next to the main tourist sights ).
The location is excellent, it is in a quiet street, but so close to everything. Next to Interior Ministry (the Home Office), so we felt safe, and at about 15 mins to the Colosseum and at comfortable walking distance to the Trevi fountain .
It seems they are upgrading the hotel as we saw renovation works going on. Anyway our room was clean and the bathroom had a fairly powerful shower. We had a mini bar, a free safe and air-con was OK.
The breakfast served by a nice and funny old man, was more than enough to keep you going until lunch. It was a buffet with juices, milk, bread rolls, cereals, boiled eggs, fruits, cold meats, slices of water melon, cake, etc… . There is also has a small garden area for breakfast.
We enjoyed the roof. The hotel has 2 roof terraces with lovely views over the city. I personally love the sunset moment.
The reception staff were mostly friendly. They allowed us to leave luggage in the hotel throughout the day on our last day so we could pick it up later without dragging it around the city all day before our flight back. The hotel also has a gym but we already walked so much !
My own rating for this hotel is four stars. We would certainly recommend it. Overall we found Viminale was a pleasant place to stay for a decent price in an expensive city. Definitely would love to return to this enchanting city to explore more MAGIC it has to offer!

  • Liked — The view from the roof
  • Disliked — They are upgrading so it should gettin better than before !

My general comments about this hotel are that it is an old hotel that needs to be refurbished urgently. The bathrooms are moldy and the carpets look disgusting. They also need to do something about their housekeeping.

Our experience of the Viminale consisted of the following:
We arrived late in the afternoon from Florence, and after some time waiting, during which we did not know what exactly the problem was, they informed us that they had lost our reservation. After waiting for almost 2 hours for them to figure out what to do, they gave us a room in the basement for the night, with the promise to change us in a different room for the rest of our stay. The room we had to stay in had not been cleaned in ages and it smelled of urine.

The next day they moved us to a different room which was big, but as I mentioned above very run down.

The breakfast was good and the location not bad, but the staff was indifferent. Not a good experience!

We originally booked to stay at the Hotel Edera but when we arrived at 9.30pm they told us they had double booked and moved us to the Viminale. It turned out the Viminale was actually in a better location (more restaurants etc nearby). It was about 10 mins to Termini and the Colosseum.

The room was a good size as it was actually a triple and the bathroom was great. The hotel was clean and breakfast was lovely - the breakfast terrace was a really nice place to eat.

We enjoyed the roof terrace and the reception staff were always friendly and helpful.

  • Liked — Good sized room
  • Disliked — Lift didn't go all way to top!
