“Hotel Virgilio”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Excellent location, clean rooms but our air conditioning was faulty (hence only 4 stars). Restaurant across road was noisy and lots of traffic noise.
Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice.
Rooms were very comfortable and there was free wifi.

This hotel was really lovely, from the moment we landed in Rome to the time we left 5 days later. The hotel arranged a chauffeur for us both from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the airport. They also helped me arrange flowers and champagne in our room as a surprise for my wife, at a reasonable charge. They warmly welcomed us upon arrival, the room was plenty big for two of us, and we didn't have anything to complain about. Our bags were taken to the room for us and we were shown around and given the lay of the land, so to speak.

The room was immaculately cleaned every day when we went out, and coming in to a fresh room is just amazing after a full day of sightseeing. Fresh sheets and towels every day without fail. The cleaning staff are top notch!

The only fault we could really pick, if any, was that we went in mid-July and the air conditioning couldn't really keep the room cool at night.

The breakfast is very nice, and you can eat to your heart's content. It consists of a wide coffee selection (via machine), a few juice options, eggs, multiple sausage types, a nice local bacon, and a huge selection of pastries. They also have breads, rolls, and cereals. Some mornings my wife was quite tired and I was able to take plates up to her also, with no problem.

The location is awesome, if you go in one direction you're at the Colosseum, and if you go in the other direction you're in modern Rome. Directly across from the hotel is a restaurant called Pasta Love, which is pleasant also. Just down the road to the left is a hidden Gelato gem which has the best Pistachio we've ever tasted. To the right is an Indian restaurant (for when you want a change from Italian food) called Indian Affairs, which itself is absolutely brilliant (the best meal we had in Rome).

Also, the Metro Termini (the heart of travel in Rome) is a 10 minute walk away, and you can put it to excellent use getting to the sights and sounds a bit further afield within Rome without breaking your legs walking by road.

All in all, we really enjoyed it here and we'd definitely come again!

PS - did I mention the free wi-fi? Communicating with family without roaming charges, awesome!

The reception people were not all that nice, the cleaning personnel was super friendly. Breakfast is not whaw, do not expect a lot. Rooms are clean but the walls are very thin. Noise and toilet flushing is a sound that you have to live with if you stay here. They have worked on free wifi and rooms are clean. This is an improvement compared to former reviews.

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel. Staff were pleasant but our Family room looked like a normal room with two extra singles beds added to "transform" the room into family room which was a little on the cramped side.......
There is no restaurant at the hotel but they serve an adequate breakfast down stairs in the morning.
The location of this hotel is excellent (our main reason for picking it!). Walking distance from main train station, Pantheon, Colosseum, Trevi Fountain.

Stayed here for one night on our way home from Italy. Nice, clean and for Rome very quiet room with good airconditioning. The quadruple room was more than enough for our family. The breakfast was good with bread, jam, sausages, eggs, ham, cheese, youghurt, croissants etc. The bad thing about it was that they only had a coffeemachine, no home made italian coffee in the morning!

On arriving at the hotel, the receptionist was friendly and welcoming. A worker showed up to our room carrying our bags for us and told us where the mini bar, safe, air conditioning controller etc was. The room was a little small however was ideal for a city break. Cedar comfy and extremely pillows were in the wardrobe if required. Shower room facilities were clean.
receptionist was most helpful on directing us to the train station where we thought we had to pick up our omnia passes (the collection point was at the Vatican in actual fact, the passes were brilliant, a must buy). Safe key required a 20 euro deposit, and there was a 2euro a day.
breakfast was a continental breakfast. There were pastries, bread, sausage, bacon, eggs, jams, cheese, ham, biscuits, fruit. Fruit juice and a coffee machine. There were 2 breakfast rooms that were next to each other, one of which had the buffet in it. Breakfast was yummy and was ideal to fill your tummy before a busy day visiting the sites.
Fresh towels provided everyday. No issues with checking out. There was a 2 euro per person per night city tax that had to be said on check out but we were informed of this when we checked in.
Ideally situated near bus stop number 6 on the Roma Christina hop on hop off bus. A couple of minutes walk from the centre anytime train station.
Would recommend this hotel! Ideally situated and perfect for a city break stay!

first time visiting Rome.lots of research done,on hotels before settling on Virgilio. What i liked was the 15 minute walk from the Termini.no need for a taxi. Also Being 15-20 minute walk to main attractions, in fact you can walk everywhere apart from Vatican. unless your a big walker.we bought tickets for city tour bus,to be honest you don't really need too, came in handy though for getting to Vatican. Back to the Hotel. Room was very small, some damp problem on bathroom ceiling. wallpaper peeling in bedroom. no view. walls very thin, toilets flushing can be heard. But you only sleep here,so what does it matter. Breakfast exceeded expectations. bacon, boiled eggs and usual cereals, toast pastries, available. staff efficient, but not over friendly. one or two good restaurants close by,lots nearer the attractions, but more expensive. would probably stay here again,if the price was right.
