We stayed here for 3 nights on a City Break in January. Young man on Reception was extremely friendly and spoke excellent English. Room was small but very clean - beds made, room cleaned and towels changed daily. I do not go on holiday to spend a lot of time in a hotel bedroom!! It was certainly 'fit for purpose' which is somewhere to sleep and leave my belongings. Breakfast wasn't fantastic but adequate. Location was excellent, within easy walking distance of practically all the attractions - we only used the bus to get to the Vatican on the other side of the Tiber. We arrived at Ciampino Airport and caught the shuttle bus (€1) from the Airport to Ciampino Railway Station then on the train from there to Rome Termini (€1.30) - very easy journey. Ryanair were offering bus tickets for €8 each way and the taxi is in the region of €30-40

My wife and I and two children, 16 and 11 stayed here for 4 nights and we found it to be neat and clean. The staff were helpful at all times. We had two neighbouring rooms which were not large, but adequate. The lift is tiny as are most that are retrofitted to old buildings in Italy, but that's part of the charm. I can stay in a US-style Hyatt or Hilton anywhere. The breakfast is delightful continental.

The location is central - a short stroll from the Colloseum and Roman Forum, from Termini Station, and from the Trevi Fountain. Would definitely stay there again.

Having booked a short break at this hotel and then read several reviews which were not favourable we were rather concerned. However we found nothing to complain about. Young man on reception was always polite and helpful. We always had hot water and the breakfast was continental style but quite adequate. The hotel is smart and chic and in walking distance of several main tourist sites.

I'm just back home after 11 days in Italy, 2 of these nights where spent in Rome at the Hotel Virgilio. Very good location as it was within walking distance of the train station and Colosseum. First thing I noticed about the Hotel was how unfriendly the lady at reception was - I don't think she ever cracked a smile or said thanks while we where there. She made us pay up front in full for our room - I should have realised that wasn't a good sign. Our room was clean and spacious but our bathroom was a disaster! Our sink was leaking which made quite a puddle when we used it so we had to resort to brushing our teeth etc in the bath. When we told the reception about it they seem to know already and obviously didn't bother to fix it. A leak is easy to live with but then we realised there was no hot water! It was evening time so we figured there'd be some in the morning! Well there wasn't. Reception told us the whole hotel wasn't getting hot water and they where working on fixing it. They never did fix it and I'm glad we didn't stay more than 2 days as after a day trekking around Rome you want a nice hot shower!! If you want to use the AC in the room you need to go down to reception and get a remote control plus leave a 10eur deposit! I thought this was bizarre but didn't surprise me. Avoid this hotel as it's seems too much stuff is going wrong.
