Our room was on the small side, but spotlessly clean. Too far for us to walk from Termini Station, but an easy taxi ride and, once you get oriented, the light rail stop a few doors down is handy. The owner was very cordial and recommended a nearby walk to the Church of Santa Croce in Gerusalemme and then a few blocks more to San Gioanni in Laterno, where the popes once lived. Wonderful walk to an area we hadn't seen before.
Breakfast was disappointing, with not much more than coffee and a roll. . . . and, oh those stairs to the room. OUCH!

Upon arrival we were told that we had to move hotels because they did not have the room we booked avaliable. The daytime staff was helpful, however, we experienced very rude treatment by the nighttime staff. The location was not safe to walk around at night. Graffiti was everywhere and it was not a nice area. Accomendations were reasonably clean but sparse compared other places that we have stayed in Italy.

We stayed at the Hotel Donatello in March 05. The rooms were fairly basic but clean and comfortable. Some have marble floors which are really really cold when you get out of bed in the morning. Breakfast is good - amazing floor in breakfast room. The best thing about this hotel is the friendly and helpful staff. They speak English and French and their advice was invaluable in helping us make the most of a short stay. They recommended a restaurant to us which we would have never have gone in otherwise and it was excellent. Ten minutes walk from Stazione Termini and 15-20 minutes Colosseum. Nearest metro 5-10 mins. Hotel allows you to leave bags once you have checked out if you have time before outward flight. Definitely recommended.

We stayed at the Donetello for 2 nights in early March. The price you can't beat for Rome and the location wasn't bad. The busses are a block away and the subway about 3 blocks. The staff was wonderful. They were the nicest out of all the hotels we stayed at.

The room though, wasn't that great. We had a triple which consisted of 3 twin beds shoved together. One of the comforters had a dried blood spot on it, luckily that wasn't my bed. The shower was large, and nice, however there was this bad smell that eminated from the bathroom. We had to plug the bidet and that seemed to help.

It was clean though and we were just there to sleep.

We just got back from Rome a week ago, our time there was great. We were very happy with our hotel staff, the owner and sons take great pride in serving their guest and suggesting area things to do and places to eat. They felt like family. The closest site to the hotel is the "Colosseo" and on our first day we walked there. All the other sites can be reached after you walk there or you can take tram #3 a block away from the hotel that will take you there and to some other sites, we also took the Metro which is about 4 or 5 blocks away. The area is very safe, at first it may not look safe due to graffitti on the buildings, but we walked at night and during early morning and it felt real safe. The breakfast was caffe latte, juice, croissants, rolls. Nothing fancy but we really enjoyed the way Carlo served it with the frothy milk in the italian coffee it was my favorite while in Rome. We had a great time and felt welcomed. One thing that happen when we arrived they didn't have a room for us but assured us that we would be taken to another hotel, they walked us around the block and checked us in, it was very nice and clean too and we enjoyed the fact that we got to stay at two different hotels while in Rome, it was a nice treat. The rooms are small, a double is two twin beds pushed together. The bathroom had marble floors and very clean. All in all it was a great value and I would stay there again!
