“Romantic Rome!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2011

We travelled to Rome in May for 4 days and stayed at Colosseum Hotel which I booked it online. The weather was great, Rome is beautiful and the Hotel was 5 minutes walk to the Colosseum. The Hotel was clean, the rooms were clean and good size but the bathroom was a bit too small. The Hotel terrace was excellent and romantic to spend late evenings there. The Hotel staff were okay, I wouldn’t say very helpful and the cleaner did not know what knocking was as three mornings just opened the door while we were asleep. Overall it was very good and enjoyable.

Room Tip: Make sure you book high floor room with front view.

We chose Hotel Colosseum after reading the tripadvisor reviews for our four day stay in Rome in October. We were very pleased we did. The hotel is 3*. It is in a very convient location for walking to all the sights and there are excellent restaurants a few minutes away. The room was comfortable. The staff lovely. Breakfast was basic but fine. The roof terrace was a really fabulous bonus. We would definitely recommend it.

We (two couples) spent three days in Rome at the end of September. Based on price and tripadvisors reviews I chose the Hotel Colosseum for our group. It worked great for us. It was located close to much of ancient Rome and allowed us to walk to many historical sites. Yes, there are hills (and poorly marked streets), but we did fine. The Hotel was clean, safe, and had a beautiful breakfast room and roof top terrace. A great place to stay for your headquaters while visiting Rome.

We are a family of two grandparents, two parents and two teenage children. Normally I take my family to five star hotels, so they were surprised when we arrived at the Colosseum Hotel which is in a side street with no swimming pool, or five star amenities. On first viewing I thought I had made a big mistake booking this hotel....but, after four nights, we found we liked it very much!

The hotel is not trying to be something that it is not. If you are not going to be spending much time in the hotel, and are looking for a comfortable bed in a smallish bedroom, with surprisingly attractive shower room, and a basic continental breakfast you will not be disappointed. Like everyone-else we appreciated the rooftop terrace.

There is a taxi rank close by, which we the grandparents made use of. A taxi to the centre of Rome costs 6 euros - but make sure the metre is switched on! The Metro is within walking distance - but it is crowded, and BEWARE pickpockets. My husband who has travelled the world for fifty years without incident, lost all his euros in a ten minute journey on the Metro.

We walked to the Colosseum and Forum, and the four younger members of the family walked from the hotel to the centre of Rome every day in under 25 minutes.

On the first evening we asked the hotel to recommend a restaurant - it was the worst meal we had during the entire trip. The best meal we had was chicken in the 'Chicken House' - out of the hotel, first left, down the steps, cross the main road, first restuarant you come to on the left.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back which was quiet every night we were ther, except for Saturday night when a...

The hotel rooms were small-but decent. The view from the top of the hotel was pretty cool. The hotel breakfasts in the morning were amazing! The sliced deli ham was out of this world! They had great bread rolls and even Nutella. They had great red grape juice and some passonfruit energy drink also.

We booked this hotel through a booking agency because it was supposed to be convenient to the coloseum and the forum. It was not convenient. To walk to the coloseum was a walk of only 15 or 20 minutes but it was very much downhill and uphill all the way. The hotel is situated on a hill and to get anywhere you have to walk downhill and then back uphill. Also, the staff were not very helpful or courteous. Breakfast was free but it was not very good. The coffee was lukewarm at best. Also, if you book through an agency, you have to pay for wireless internet.
All in all, it was a bad choice for us to stay at this hotel. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

We spent four nights here and were delighted with our choice. Our room was a good size and well equipped. The location is excellent for walking to the main sights and for access to the Metro and there are lots of really good cafes and restaurants nearby. Breakfast was extremely good and the staff were really friendly. The staff on the front desk speak excellent English and were very helpful. I appreciated the free computer use and the roof top terrace is great for views over the city and just soaking up the sun. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: "double room" does not mean "double bed" so make sure you make your requirements...

Hotel Colosseum, a magnificent terrace overlooking Rome... Welcome to Hotel Colosseum. You are in the characteristic Rione Monti, one of the oldest and most picturesque neighbourhoods of the "Eternal City", in the peaceful and quiet Via Sforza, at n°10. Thanks to our exclusive location, in the centre of Monumental Rome, you will have the opportunity to visit the main tourist attractions on foot. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel, you will find the Basilica of S. Maria Maggiore, the Colosseum and the Domus Aurea. Crossing Via Cavour will take you to Via Urbana. Called "Vicus Patricius" in antiquity, it is remembered above all for the visits, which tradition claims were made by St. Peter to the house of a Christian senator here. A short, scenic walk along the streets of Rome will also take you to the Imperial Fora and the Church of S. Pietro in Vincoli, which houses Michelangelo's famous statue of Moses. Hotel Colosseum is located at one of the highest points of Esquiline Hill and provides a 360° panoramic view of Rome and its surroundings from a splendid, furnished terrace on the eighth floor of the building, where the guests can enjoy the view while savouring a drink from our bar. All the rooms and common areas of the hotel have Wi-Fi coverage. An internet point is also available for use. At the reception, you can get information about all means of travelling through the city (taxi and bus services, car, scooter and bicycle rentals) and about guided tours. The stops of numerous city buses are a few meters from Hotel Colosseum and the "Cavour" (Line B) metro stop is about 3 minutes away on foot. The Termini railway station is 700 meters away. The hotel is situated in the historical centre of Rome, outside the limited traffic zone (ZTL); therefore, it is possible to get to us by car and park in the nearby partner garage. Otherwise, it is possible to book our fixed-price transfer and airport pick-up/drop-off service. ... more   less
