I stayed at the Igea in 2007 and was very happy with my choice. Getting there was easy, straight off my flight and on to the train into Rome. Very quick walk from Termini to the Igea and an easy, friendly check in. The igea is very conveniently situated near to the bus station, metro and termini.

My room faced the rear courtyard and I enjoyed the glimpse of Roman life through my window. The room was quite large, not lavishly furnished, but very clean and comfortable and I was very satisified. Clean bathroom where everything worked, crisp new linens and towels daily. As per other reviews, yes the shower was small, but it worked well and was very welcome after a day walking around Rome. Staff were great . When, (despite confirmations), I had a problem with pick ups for 2 tours, they called the tour operators for me and helped to straighten things out. They also packed me a, "bag of breakfast" , when I had a very early start for a tour to Pompei.

I was travelling alone and felt completely safe both at the Igea and dining out in the area at night. I loved Rome and nothing about the Igea spoiled that for me. I stayed 5 nights and would happily stay there again.

I just returned from my first visit to Rome and the Hotel Igea definitely served its purpose. The journey from the airport to the hotel was very easy. All we had to do was hop on the train and 30 minutes later we were at Termini Train Station. The hotel was literally located only a minute or so away and was perfect as we utilized the hop on/hop off buses at the train station to get around the city. I felt completely safe while there...even at 2am when walking home.

The hotel itself is a bit old and small, but is VERY reasonable for Rome. The room was spotless and the bed linens and towels were changed daily. Breakfast is included, but there was little variety. I'm not a big breakfast person though and was content with a cappuccino and piece of pastry.

As another poster mentioned, the shower was extremely small, but there was hot water all the time. Also, the room had air conditioning which was ideal with Rome's warm temps. My room (a single) was located on the courtyard side and I heard little, if any noise at night.

Overall, if you are looking for a clean, affordable place to stay while in Rome I would highly recommend this hotel. There is nothing fancy about it but it serves it's purpose.

My party of five ranging in age from 11 to 84 were in Rome for a four night break to take in all the sights, and the hotel was in a great location for us to walk comfortably to the Colosseum (about 1 mile I should say), Forum,Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. The only way to really see Rome is on foot afterall. The Bus Station was a block away and there were regular buses to St Peters and the Vatican City for 1 Euro.

The Hotel Igea was more than adequate for our needs. On first sight the room seemed a little old fashioned and gloomy, but we did not intend to spend a lot of time there. It was clean, the bed linen was crisp, the towels were changed daily and there was hot water whenever we needed it. It was a little noisy at night with people talking in the street as opposed to traffic noise. The breakfast consisted of freshly baked rolls (which I have to say were a little on the hard side) pre wrapped french toast type slices, soft cheeses and preserves. There was orange juice, tea and coffee and plenty of it. The man that ran the Breakfast Room when we were there seemed a bit grumpy but my 84 year old step father who speaks Italian (remnants of his Second World War service) managed to bring him round and he is not as scary as he seems, just really busy!

The Hotel does not have a bar which is a shame as after a long day of sightseeing it would have been nice to have relaxed in the lounge with a cold beer or glass of wine. There are places to eat in the vicinity and our favourite was the "Trattoria Cecio" opposite the Igea. It is family run and was packed every night with locals (always a good sign) as well as tourists.

  • Liked — Convenient location to the historic sights
  • Disliked — Had a lift, but you still had to go up or downstairs to your room as it only stopped between floors

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in April/May 2005. It was friendly, clean and very central. It had everything we wanted and was a few minutes walk from central station. Our room was on the top floor (6th floor) at the back and looked out onto a central (and very interesting) courtyard. It was large, airy, ensuite with double bed and had more than adequate space for our luggage. There was fresh linen every day. It had a lift and breakfast room. Breakfast was great. I have coeliac and it was no problem for staff to provide a gluten free breakfast for me.Whilst in Rome no-one spends much time in their hotel as there is too much to see and do. Rates were very reasonable. Don't pay for expensive hotels in Rome as you won't spend any time in them . Rome is a wonderful city and this hotel was more than adequate.
