I stayed in the Hotel Commodore for two nights. Having traveled to Rome at least twenty times, I am by now quite familiar with Roman hotels.
For new travelers to Rome the location close to Termini (central station) and the Santa Maria Maggiore is nice, but the main attractions like the Forum, St. Peter's and the centro storico are elsewhere in town. However, since you are within walking distance from the station, you can easily get a bus a metro there. Or you can walk all the way of course, as Rome is a delight to explore on foot!
The hotel itself looks a bit drab on the outside. Inside it looks a lot better than you'd expect, although it does have this 1970s feel. My room was on the top floor, where the promised wifi did not work. I think I was just unlucky, as it worked on all other floors just fine. The staff had no technical knowledge whatsoever, but in general were very friendly and helpful.
The room was quite small though. This was compensated by a bathroom and shower that was just a large as the room itself. Breakfast was pretty good.
All in all I think the hotel is good value for what I spent. If I ever need to stay in this neighbourhood in Rome again, I might consider staying here again.
