We spent two nights in the Hotel Nord Nuova while in Rome. The hotel is located about a 15 minute walk from the Colosseum and other attractions and is near the main train station.

It is far enough removed from the train station area that we did not feel there were any of the possible problems (pick pockets, etc.) that we heard about in that area.

Our room was very small, but it was comfortable. We were at the end of a hallway, which was nice because it cut down on any possible noise. The hotel is in a fairly busy area, but we did not hear any noise from the street during the nights.

The hotel did not have a restaurant on the premises, but there were plenty of cafes and even upscale dining within walking distance.

The property does have a fantastic bar on the top of the roof. The prices were reasonable, and the open-air setting was great. It had great views of the city lights.

I used the wireless internet in the hotel both nights, which was expensive (at least 10 euro for 24 hours). I also had some problems with the connection, but they were eventually resolved.

Overall, this was a good hotel at a reasonable price in the city.

The hotel is perfectly located and very easy to walk to the metro (Republica) or the buses (termini). The rooms were very small but we managed. Everything was spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were ok but the cappucino was fantastic. They only have one English satellite channel and that is CNN and the TV reception was awful. The room was very hot and the aircon didn't feel cold and it was noisy. We asked for a room at the back of the hotel (on 4th floor) and we did hear early morning deliveries (about 4am) but we did have the window open....

We only booked this hotel because we got the 4th night free, so it worked out ok for value but if you don't get a deal, i would say it is expensive and only great because of location. The Roof Terrace is a must in the evening, view of the Baths is fantastic and nothing beats an ice cold beer with great music and free nuts!

Rome doesn't have many "supermarkets" and we only found DeSpar in the Termini and on Nationzale Road which isn't far which helps to buy things like water etc. The Est Est Est pizzeria around the corner is a great place to eat and very reasonably priced.

Rome is very hilly and although you can walk to most things, it is too draining in the heat (about 35 deg in July). Bus 40 and 64 are the best and the metro is so easy and aircond (also very frequent , never waited more than 3 mins).

We got the RomaPass which is worthwhile as it incls all transport for 3 days and two museum passes (not the Vatican). We used it for the Coloseum and the Palantine (linked) - also a great tip using the Romapass for the Coloseum/Palatine is skipping the queues. We also used it for the Terme Diocletizian (Baths) - not worth a visit unless you like lots of Roman busts but it diid also incl the National Roman Museum which was great for mosiacs. The Romapass also incl Galeria Borghese but you have to book beforehand so if you are into art - do this before visiting.

The Vatican is a must but the queues were awful - queued in the blazing sun for more than 1.5hrs in the heat, not recommended for children.

I had a single room w/ a twin bed. For one person it was plenty of room. The place was perfect for what i needed: Great location, right across the street from the train and metro station, walking distance to everything I wanted to see. The area seemed very safe. It has an okay fitness room should you feel the need. Roof top bar was nice. Wireless internet, although not cheap, ~$20/day and I just did the low-end plan and it was fine for making video calls through Skype.

The only positive point about this hotel is its location i.e. near to Termini rail station. If this is the only criterion there are plenty of similarly priced better hotels near by (some 4 stars). We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in July.
Here are the points I disliked...
1. The front desk reception staff were not helpful. To start with they asked me to keep the passport at the reception and come back in half hour to collect it. As it would take them 30 minutes to complete the check-in formalities. Wonder why ? I remained at the desk and they eventually did complete the check-in in the next 10 minutes.
2. We were 3 of us including our 14 months baby. We were given a room with 2 single beds. We were provided with a child cot later. I do not expect a classic double bed room to have two single beds. The room decoration was in-adequate.
3. We were recommended an open top bus tour Ciao Roma. We were asked to pay 6 Euros to the hotel front desk and remaining 13 euros to the bus company. This tour company unlike the several others stopped far away from places of interest. Hence we had a long walk to where we wanted to go. Plus even after charging the 6 euros we had paid for the reservation we did not get a seat on the top floor of the bus.
4. The morning breakfast was just about average. No fresh juice. There was a juice machine (from a concentrate).
5. No kettle in rooms. (But I guess generally true with all hotels in Italy).
6. There was a standing shower with curtains. Water spilled out after a shower.

Positive points ...
1. Near Termini train station.
2. The staff did call a Taxi whenever required.
3. They have a locker room to keep luggage after you checkout. So you do not need to take your luggage to any other left luggage facility.
4. Near a few attractions.

If I visit Rome again I will not stay in this Hotel. There are plenty nearby and if you do not want to stay near Termini then there are other very good hotels in Rome.
