My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Atlantico for 4 nights October 9-13, 2009. (Post Rome trip after a 7 night cruise on the MSC Splendida).
We took the Train from Civitavecchia to the Rome Termini Station on the express train immediately following the cruise. Very easy to do, except loading the luggage on the train was a bit of a pain.
After getting off the train in Rome, we simply went out to the street and walked the 1 1/2 flat, easy short blocks to the Hotel. We were pulling 3 suitcases. plus carry on's and had no trouble. I had google mapped the Hotel, so knew exactly where we were going.
The Hotel Atlantico is a small quaint boutique style hotel. The front desk staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and spoke good English. (The Bellman not so much english, but still very helpful.)
The Hotel has a small lift (elevator) but we mostly used the stairs. We had a very large corner room on the 4th floor. Not much view, but did have large opening windows. Also, we were on the back side so had no noise at night. In fact we found it very quiet.
The room had a very comfortable king sized bed and we ordered extra feather pillows (theirs were rock-hard) which came quickly from room service. In the room was a stocked mini-bar, good a/c and adequate closet space.
They had room service - which we didn't use.
The Hotel is actually joined to it's higher end sister hotel called the Hotel Mediterraneo. You can also go in their entrance and connect through to the Atlantico.
The Roof-Top restaurant and the breakfast buffet location are both in the Mediterraneo, not the Atlantic. About a 10 second walk, so it doesn't even feel that you are in a different hotel.
The roof top restaurant was lovely, but extremely expensive, so we only had drinks there, not dinner.
The Free breakfast buffet was excellent. Tons of selection including hot eggs and bacon. The only qualm was the crabby breakfast girls working there. Otherwise the food/selection good.

As mentioned the location and proximity to the Termini was superb! We would be out our front door and literally have our choice of the train, metro, city bus or hop on/off buses within one minute.
We could go out exploring all day then easily come back to the hotel for a rest/refresh before going out again for dinner.
There are also numerous restaurants and shops all within walking distance on the side streets. We always felt safe and the location is NOT seedy at all.
Yes, it is an older, small boutique-style Hotel, but you are in Rome for goodness sake!!
We found the service, staff and accommodations to be just excellent for a city stay like this and would definitely go back!

Good 4 star hotel. Good location; hotel food was good, though pricey and not difficult to fine better priced quality restaurants in the vicinity.

We had to change our room and the matter was dealt with, most commendably; very helpful staff.

Hotel is old and so everything from the lift etc is quite ancient and creaking. If I recommended anyone to stay here I would suggest that they should insist for a room on the first two floors only.

Our travel agent booked a package that included air-fare, transfers and 7 nights at the Atlantico. We checked the ratings on TA and decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. This is a very nice hotel and I can't think of anything bad to say about it. We were up on the 5th floor at the back away from the street so we never had any issues with noise.

The included breakfast was good and the capuccino was excellent. The rooms were clean and well maintained. The room includes a safe but not an alarm clock. Bring your own battery powered one or use the wake-up call service. The power outlets in the room turn off when you remove your card to leave so any devices that are plugged in will shut off. The A/C was quiet and unobtrusive.

We took advantage of the rooftop terrace at night to enjoy a prosecco, enjoy the view and discuss our day of site-seeing. The terrace is in the attached Mediterraneo hotel, along with the breakfast buffet.

I've read some posts that claim that the area around Termini isn't so nice but that doesn't seem to be the case with Via Cavour, west of Termini where the Atlantico is located. We never felt unsafe while walking around, day or night.

I would definitely return to the Atlantico if given the chance.

We booked this hotel mainly based on price and location. The hotel is two blocks from Termini train station, which has access to metros, trains (including a direct Leonardo train to Fiumicino airport) and buses. The hotel is a 10 minute walk to the Colosseum, Forum, Palatine Hill, Capitol Hill and Piazza Reppublica, and about a 20 minute walk to the Spanish Steps. Our room faced the street so there was some street noise at night, but otherwise the hotel was very quiet. The air conditioning (essential in Rome in August) was good, and very quiet. The rooms have full bathrooms (if you've traveled in Europe, you know what I mean!) with big bathtubs, nice sinks and bidets. The otel staff is wonderful, we dealt primarily with Albert, and he was very helpful. He and the other staff helped us book tours and reserve tickets to the Galleria Borghese (reservations are REQUIRED for this museum), and called us taxis multiple times. The continental breakfast has lots of variety, including hot and cold items (not just toast and fruit), and the breakfast staff is very organized. The rooms were always cleaned perfectly. The hotel does offer room service (although we didn't try it) and there is pay-per-use internet (takes credit cards) in the connected Mediterraneo Hotel. The rooftop restaurant and garden in the connecting hotel is expensive, but if you only go for a drink and dessert it's not bad, and it has a great view of the city at night. Overall, this a lovely hotel in a great location, and I would stay here again!
