My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Atlantico for 4 nights October 9-13, 2009. (Post Rome trip after a 7 night cruise on the MSC Splendida).
We took the Train from Civitavecchia to the Rome Termini Station on the express train immediately following the cruise. Very easy to do, except loading the luggage on the train was a bit of a pain.
After getting off the train in Rome, we simply went out to the street and walked the 1 1/2 flat, easy short blocks to the Hotel. We were pulling 3 suitcases. plus carry on's and had no trouble. I had google mapped the Hotel, so knew exactly where we were going.
The Hotel Atlantico is a small quaint boutique style hotel. The front desk staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and spoke good English. (The Bellman not so much english, but still very helpful.)
The Hotel has a small lift (elevator) but we mostly used the stairs. We had a very large corner room on the 4th floor. Not much view, but did have large opening windows. Also, we were on the back side so had no noise at night. In fact we found it very quiet.
The room had a very comfortable king sized bed and we ordered extra feather pillows (theirs were rock-hard) which came quickly from room service. In the room was a stocked mini-bar, good a/c and adequate closet space.
They had room service - which we didn't use.
The Hotel is actually joined to it's higher end sister hotel called the Hotel Mediterraneo. You can also go in their entrance and connect through to the Atlantico.
The Roof-Top restaurant and the breakfast buffet location are both in the Mediterraneo, not the Atlantic. About a 10 second walk, so it doesn't even feel that you are in a different hotel.
The roof top restaurant was lovely, but extremely expensive, so we only had drinks there, not dinner.
The Free breakfast buffet was excellent. Tons of selection including hot eggs and bacon. The only qualm was the crabby breakfast girls working there. Otherwise the food/selection good.
As mentioned the location and proximity to the Termini was superb! We would be out our front door and literally have our choice of the train, metro, city bus or hop on/off buses within one minute.
We could go out exploring all day then easily come back to the hotel for a rest/refresh before going out again for dinner.
There are also numerous restaurants and shops all within walking distance on the side streets. We always felt safe and the location is NOT seedy at all.
Yes, it is an older, small boutique-style Hotel, but you are in Rome for goodness sake!!
We found the service, staff and accommodations to be just excellent for a city stay like this and would definitely go back!
