“Good hotel - airport shuttle problem”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2009

The Crown Plaza is a fine hotel with an excellent restaurant. The room was very clean and well lit. It was very good for a european hotel. The staff were very helpful.

The one concern that I have is that they have a great number of American travelers who take the early morning shuttle bus to the airport and they only have one stop. The bus driver on our trip was courteous, but not helpful when we got to the airport. He obviously knew that the all the US Airlines were not in Terminal 3 (where he dropped us off) and was less than honest when we asked him about their location. We were befuddled for several minutes until we found a police officer who directed us the to spot where one needs to take a shuttle to Terminal 5 (You simply wouldn't be able to walk it with your luggage).

It is my opinion that the Crown Plaza should make a bus stop at Terminal 5.

Outside of that, the shuttle to Rome Center was fine and on time.

The hotel was very good.

The hotel, staff and grounds were very nice. The location is lacking. The hotel does offer a free shuttle to downtown and a taxi isn't that expensive but Rome is a very walkable city that you should have access to 24-7. This hotel would be great for a business stay but not for a culture seeker. The swimming pool hours could be better. I would have loved to use their hot tub but it closed at 8pm. This should change to 11pm so that it allows for those who have been out all day to relax.

We stayed at this hotel prior to a cruise. We had visited Rome before on another cruise and wanted to roam around Rome on our on this time. This hotel is not in or near all the sites we wanted to see, but the hotel ran and shuttle all day to the Rome City Center. From Rome City Center, you can venture to all the main highlights from the Forum/Colleseum to the South to Trevi Fountain/Spanish Steps and the Pantheon is just a short walk.
The Vatican is reachable by bus with a bus stop right in front of the Hotel entrance.

We arrived early (about 8:00 AM) and no room was available so we had the hotel's breakfast buffet which was quite large for pricy if not included in your stay.

Rooms were clean and had a small refigerator which was convenient for chilling soda or wine. We walked along a very narrow sholder to the local grocery market (about 15-20 minutes from the hotel) but if you catch the shuttle into Rome, there is a supermarket in the block adjacent to the bus stop where we picked up soda, wine, and bottle water.

While the price was right, I would probably stay closer in the Rome proper.

Just got back from a wonderful weekend stay at the Crowne Plaza in Rome, we celebrated my daughter's 18th birthday there and the staff made it such a special stay we can't thank them enough.
There is such a nice family atmosphere at the Hotel and with the staff being so helpful it makes your stay even more enjoyable. The amenities at the Hotel are great and the rooms are very comfortable. The food in the Restaurant is amazing and the Restaurant staff were so attentive when we celebrated my daughter's 18th birthday they made it an evening we could never forget.

I found the hotel was ideally situated for visiting most of the sites of Rome, with a bus stop located directly outside the hotel; it was possible to get into Rome with 20 minutes of leaving. The hotel receptionists are very helpful in providing directions and can provide the tickets for the train. For those who want to travel by taxi there are always plenty waiting in the grounds to take you directly to where any location.
The restaurants in the area are good and very reasonably priced, some even provide an inclusive service to pick you up and drop you back at the hotel. The food in all we visited was very good and the service friendly.
The hotel facilities are very good with a large out- door pool which is fantastic to relax around after a long day in the city. Our room was more than we could have hoped for and we both look forward to visiting again.

Two weeks ago we have been married in Rome! It was the most wonderful experience. One of the highlights was definitely our celebration in Crowne Plaza.

Around 19 houres we started with a cocktailhour, outside near the pool. Then we had a delicious 4-course dinner in the hotel's restaurant Jardin d'Hiver and later on we danced for hours in a great patio outside. The staff was really helpfull and friendly and the ambiance was perfect; place setting, candles, roses, music, fingerfood, everything was have been taking care of. The outside area was beautiful decorated and also the tables looked magnificent.

There was not one complaint out of 34 guests who stayed in Crowne Plaze for the weekend.

There was some trouble communicating with the City Hall of Rome for some last details of the ceremony (since we don't speak any Italian), but the Food and Beverage Manager (Maria; who aranged our celebration) didn't hestitate to help us with this. 'Everything for your convenience, so you can relax' she said. So sweet! And therefore also our ceremony went smoothly. She even arranged the wedding bouquet, wedding cake and hairdresser and made sure the musicians where there on time. Also the Meeting Director (Marco) was really friendly. We felt at home immediately and could not have asked for more.

Our wedding was because of this great help even better than we could have ever imagined. Thank you so much Maria, Marco and Valerio!

P.S. More professional pictures will be uploaded soon!
