Express by Holiday Inn East in Rome is out in the middle of nowhere. We booked there because they claim to have a free shuttle bus every 30 mins to the nearest Metro. For the duration of our stay there was no shuttle bus in operation, although the hotel did on one occasion pay for a taxi to the metro which cost them 10 euros. The lack of the shuttle was a huge minus as the 451 bus does go to the metro but coming back it is very hard to figure out the right stop as the hotel is well away from the main road and dingy on the outside. Inside the hotel is nice and new and very clean. No bath, but a lovely powerful shower. The free buffet breakfast is handy and consists of rolls, meat, cheese and cakes, cereal, fruit juice & coffee. There is a huge supermarket a one minute walk away that does have a little coffee shop/snack bar as well. There are tea & coffee making facilities in the rooms but the air conditioning would not blow cool! Staff were helpful and pleasant and understood English. The only English speaking telly channel was CNN unless you paid extra, but when in Rome etc! We would not stay here again as it is just too out of the way and we did not dare come back after dark as we would never have got off the bus at the right stop!! It is easy to get to the airport via public transport for a lot less than a taxi fare though.
