This is a difficult hotel to describe. First of all in my opinion the rooms, lobby and all round appearance of the hotel are definately 3 star. The room we had was very nice but had no mini bar and the TV was a very small portable TV with few channels or movie options.

The staff were OK - the bar man (Im pretty sure there was only 1) was very nice but without a word of English (it is in Rome and I dont have a word of Italian so who can complain?). Although calling the very limited drinks area just of the lobby a bar may be a streatch. Room service was also provided by this bar man - it consists of lasagne, Pizza and Cheese Burgers if I remember correctly. And they had a distinctly mircowaved taste from them.

The room was funky and by big European city standards very big. I thought the decor was great and the entire hotel was SPOTLESS.

The location was a little too far out of the way although the Zoo and a beautiful park and gardens are near by. The Vatican is miles away (take metro) and the Trevi fountain and the Collesseo are also a good 25 minute walk assuming you know where you are going (again you can take the metro).

However, and this is where it becomes difficult to knock this hotel, if you are fully mobile the walks into the main tourist area are actually very enjoyable (not at the peak of the sunshine hours though - its just too hot). You get to see magnificant ruines of ancient structures that go by hardly noticed, you pass great coffee shops/bars and restaraunts that offer great food and really fantastic prices. Which for me gave a taste of the real Rome - out of the rip off central locations which are surrounded by tac.

The Hotel is overpriced for what it is - we payed 110Euro a night. There are a huge number of OAP tours passing through the hotel - particularly from the USA which might explain the overpriced rooms so as to allow for inflaited package prices.

Not sure about this hotel - hopefully you can make a call on it yourself from this review.

We were here with a Globus Tour and found the hotel to be very modern in design, clean and elegant. The staff was helpful. I do wish I had read the previous review about them not mailing post cards...I gave them some to mail (they were stamped) so hopefully they will arrive...
Breakfast was generally good with many options. Like the other hotels we stayed in in Italy, their scrambled eggs were not very good and even though we were the first in for breakfast, were less than lukewarm, not good. Stay with the hard boiled eggs. You do have to walk a ways to find restaurants and food stores but there is a pastry shop with wifi a block away. After our tour ended one day we stayed in town and use bus 63 to get back, just be sure to ask the hotel staff to tell you where to get off on the way back.

Went thru Carnival to stay in Rome an extra day to enjoy more sites. The hotel was very clean and pleasant and breakfast was wonderful. One problem is that they had stated that they were close to the Spanish Steps. They were not close to anything. We did take a taxi and then was close to everything. Be truthful. The other and main problem we had (and to me this is a biggie) is that both our friends that we traveled with and us took an hour of our vacation time to write at least 10 postcards each to loved ones and friends and gave them 1 Euro a piece to have the front desk mail them for us. Which was the price that they said they charged to mail for their guests. NONE OF THESE AT LEAST 20 CARDS WERE EVER RECEIVED. Of course we can't go back and get our money that they bilked the poor unsuspecting tourists out of. They never answered my email asking why and they just told my friend in an email that of course they were mailed. This really was a huge disappointment.

The Hotel Albani was the second stop on my honeymoon in July 08. Overall, we were very pleased with the hotel - the decor was fun and bright, the rooms were immaculate and comfortable and the hotel bar was fun and comfortable.

If there was a negative to the hotel, it was its distance from the main sites of Rome. It was a pretty significant walk to get to anything... about 30 minutes to the Spanish Steps, for instance. My wife and I didn't mind - just used public transportation a lot, and got to walk around the city a lot, which I find helps you really get to know a city.

Might not be a good choice for older visitors or families with children, who don't want to have to expend so much effort navigating around the city.

Overall, the hotel is definitely recommended. We'd stay there again in a heartbeat.

Great location and excellent hotel!
The view of the balcony was great and the room was very large with a great bathroom.
The breakfast was good but not excellent.
