The positives.
It is conveniently located. It does not get better for visiting Vatican sites. We walk a lot (because we like it) and never took metro to get anywhere in the center of Rome including the colliseum, but the metro is one or two blocks away.
The rooms are very nicely remodeled. Marble and granite everywhere, stylish and modern bathroom fixtures. It's probably recent too.
The front desk staff is friendly and most speak enough English to explain everything you need.
The breakfast choices are limited, but the espresso made on request is absolutely perfect. We tipped those guys every day, and we are not people who would tip anyone.
There's cheap wifi access sold by the front desk.
The negatives.
Even though I gave 4 stars all around, the issues reported by the traveler from Hong Kong all exist.
It is a requirement that even a one star hotel must provide a towel per person per day. The age and quality of towels is nowhere near the quality of the room interior. Someone should tell the made for sure.
The shower pan is clean, but it does not drain too well (the water pressure is something you don't see in US, so it's a lot to drain).
Do whatever you can to get an inside view room. There's a small pizzeria right below frequented by crowds of locals 10 pm to midnight. When they close, there is a lot of noise dragging things around.
