“Great location, attentive staff, very clean rooms and good breakfast!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

This hotel is three star, and is centrally located block and half from the Vatican, a nice little walk to St. Peters Square and tour bus locations. As well near main shopping drag, and just around the block or so, there is a lot of shops, bars, restaurants, outdoor cafe's and vendors at practically every corner.

It's conveniently located via Germanico (one-way), and Octivianno on the corner and across a street that has the best italian food, such as different pizza slices, meat, potatoes, and pasta. As well wine and very nice staff particularly Davido, who is quite the charmer. Thanks Davido :)
If you take away food, it is much cheaper than eating in. If you buy Chianti wine it's 8:50 euro and sit in is between 12-15 euros. But just beside Amalia there's a corner convenience store with lots of inexpensive wine (3 euros), cheeses, spices, pasta, and kitchen wares...

The continental breakfast is included and very satisfying, nice coffee, cappuccino, juices (try blood organge juice - yum), milk, there's sweets, croissants, toast/cheese sandwich and cereal. Staff is very nice and space is compact but it's fun as everyone participates in discussions of their travels and great deals. You feel safe, and comfortable it reminded me of a dorm atmosphere. There's a courtyard in the middle and there are other people who live there as well.

Gabriella, Rudolpho, and Leonardo, Marcea, and others are very nice and accommodating. These are the regular staff that tend to you while there. The hotel is a bit dated but no big deal, it's quaint and a place you call home while there. The beds are so firm and comfortable, have safe in room, and standard little toilet, the rooms are spacious. Next to the hotel is a restaurant that staff are very pretentious and a bit rude. Oh they won't serve you if you sit to have a drink at their table....looks like they only serve rich people or the mafia...it seems.

There's a sister hotel dei Consoli and that's more upscale and also have rooms at Amalia. Consoli is on the main shopping drag and has a very nice roof terrace. I'd like to try that place next time I go there.

Room Tip: there is no fitness centre or swimming pool at the hotel. Walking up to the 4th floor would give yo...

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

I stayed here recently and thought the location was fantastic. It is 10 mins easy walk to St Peters or about 5 mins to the Vatican Museum. The hotel has a small reception area where they will store your bags. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They assisted us with airport transfers, printing out documents on the computer and other advice. The room was nice if a tad dated and the bathroom was fine. The shower cubicle was like something from the dark ages and was extremely small but I wasn't sleeping in it so not a major negative. The beds were very large and comfortable. The room had a safe, TV, Phone and fridge. Individually controlled A/C and heating which worked well. The breakfast was somewhat disappointing. I think they either use a different breakfast room during peak periods or else the photos of breakfast service on their website are not specific to the hotel (in which case this is misleading). The breakfast room was on the 4th floor with 5 very small perches. The variety of food was basic enough but the staff were very helpful in getting us toast etc. I think the breakfast service could be improved but at least you will get nice tea and coffee to start the day. Generally though, this is a clean, decently priced, well located hotel. As long as you're just looking somewhere to lay your head I highly recommend it.

The staff was extremely accommodating in helping us navigate throughout Rome and providing taxis whenever asked. We were very happy with our booking and would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice hotel for a good price and a great location within walking distance of most things.

We stayed at Hotel Amalia for our two week stay in Italy. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Whenever we needed directions or bus routes/schedule, they would give us information in great detail so we wouldn't get lost. The rooms are small, clean, and cozy and have all the amenities you need for your stay. The reason I gave it a four and not the full five rating is because of two things. Number one, they have WI-FI so I brought along my laptop. I wasn't able to connect to the internet the whole time I stayed here. I did inform them at the front desk, which they gave me numerous logins/passwords but unfortunately was unable to connect. Finally I gave up and used the internet at a USO right around the corner (my husband is military). The second thing we weren't too happy about was the breakfast area. The breakfast area is super small and when we went one morning to eat, we were all crammed in a tiny little room with other guests. Breakfast consisted of coffee and bread. The bread was fresh and delicious. Don't except any big breakfast such as eggs and potatoes as it is only coffee and bread. Other than that everything was great. Metro and bus stops are right around the corner (Ottaviano st), the basilica of san Pietro is walking distance from the hotel, if you crave an american burger McDonald's and Burger King are also walking distance from Hotel Amalia.
Great hotel in awesome location. We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms with indoor/interior view are quieter than the ones with street view.

My family of four stayed here and it was very nice. The elevators are small, so we never all fit at the same time, but the guys ran down the stairs most times. The woman at the desk was very helpful, they stored our luggage when we had to check out and pointed us to the metro and close by restaurants. The hotel is nicely situated and close to many fascinating sites. I can't say enough about the friendliness of the Romans and the beauty of this city. We found the breakfast to be varied, with enough to get a great start to the day. Would stay here again!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

We stay in Amalia 4 nights in early July. The hotel is in the corner of Via Otavianno/ Via Germanico, 1 minute from piazza del Resorgimiento, and 5 min walk from Piazza San Peter.
It has all you need for a perfect stay in Rome. Lets be clear on some points: if you want a 5 stars breakfast with steaks, eggs, and champanhe in the morning this is not for you.You maybe find it in Rome but you have to pay 10 times what u pay here. And this exemple serves for everithing else, the room, reception ect ect.

We know many 5 stars Hotels and this is a 3 stars city hotel, perfect for what ull need.

The owners serves the breakfast in the morning!,they are a nice couple ,him Italian her Brasilian, they make u capuccino or any other type of coffe u need, nice fresh bread, cakes juices and cheses.

U can walk to every atraction from the Hotel. The Vatican and the museum are 5 minutes away.
When going to the old town, 10 minutes walk to the river Tibre, then in 3 minutes u are in Piazza Navona, The phanteon, ect ect.

Then,on the way to Trevi Fountain area we found a great restaurant in via Madalena(it call Madalena) 1 minute away from the best ice cream in the world the Giollati!! 200 metres away.

The day you spend visiting the Coloseo,The Palatino and the Forum we advice u to take the subway(2 min walk)from the hotel, cause its a bit exausting trying to see it all,u dont need the 3/4 Km walk from the hotel adding to that! But its possible to do, your choice.

I was in Rome twice before.I advice Amalia if u want to spend at least 50% of your holidays in the Vatican Area(the museum takes 1 week to see it proprely!).

If u want to see more of the old town and the Coleseo/Palatino/Forum, if u a true fan of "Gladiator" and all Rome History, Like me, i can advise u the Collona Palace, in front of the Italian Parlemient. We where there one of the other times and its great to (the price however is more or less the double of Amalia, so make your choices!)

Any other information needed,just ask.

Room Tip: Street View, impar numbers
