The hotel is well situated, but the front of house staff could not give a damn about their guests. The air conditioning was not turned on centrally, but it could not have been used in the room (401) anyway as the unit was too noisy. The room was dirty, with layers of dust, torn wallpaper, even a previous client's socks in a drawer. I was not happy that despite the official taxi rate to the airport is 40 Euro they were trying to sell it at 45 Euros. 4 star? I don't think so!

Well what can I say,
I won a Trip to Rome and this was booked by the Event Mangers, I was promised a luxuary night in Rome at a 5 star hotel.
When we arrived it looks good from the outside, However looks are very diciving we were booked for a Twin room but given a double so I asked them to split the beds and was told they would try but could take a few hours? I have taken photos as they bathroom door could shut properly as the door frame was comming away from the wall, The bedside lamps were falling apart and all the electrical wires were on display, so didn't use them, which ment the room was very dark all through out the day, Holes in the walls and the paper peeling off, the shower and toilets were well just wrong, I have stayed in a cheeper Travel Inn and got more for my money ,
Good thing is location but thats it the city is full of graphiti and frankly would good back if i was paid. There is NO WAY this is a 5 Star it should be a 2 star if that. Breakfast don't touch it and the mini bar only soft drinks the bar in the evening shuts at 10.00pm.WILL NEVER GO BACK WHAT A LET DOWN

The Gallia Hotel is in a superb location - 5 mins walk from the termini station (although I didn't realise when I arrived and got screwed by a taxi man - so be warned) 5-10 mins from pretty much everywhere else - Collosseum, Trevi Fountain etc. Hotel was very clean and very quiet. I never saw any other guests except for in the breakfast room in the morning. Room was of a standard decent size with a cheap enough mini bar. Plenty of information about local tours and sights were available at reception too.

We were originally booked to stay at one of the other Leonardi properties-Hotel Viminale- but due to a flood in our room, we were booked here, Viminale paid for and calleda a cab--and we couldn't have been happier! We stayed athe Gaillia for five days. The location is great for exploring.
The room was large enough for two-nice big marble bathroom. It was clean and all the amenities were readily restocked. There was a small minibar, and the hotel didn't mind if you used the fridge to store your own wine, fruit, chees, etc.. Handy as there is a supermarket around the corner.

I have read a few of the other reviews--we found the staff to be extremely accomodating. They even helped with our Italian, and train timetables.
We left Rome for Capri, and the hotel stored our luggage for us for 4 days then had it transferred back to the Hotel Viminale for us easily-it was waiting in our room upon our return. Breakfast is no better, no worse than any continential I've had in Italy, Britiain, France or elsewhere.

It is a charming-slightly quirky hotel. We would definitely stay there again! It seems that people too often expect exactly what they have at home in other places--travel is an adventure, and while maybe not 4 star if you're expecting posh--we found nothing, nothing to complain about.

  • Liked — location, great bathroom
  • Disliked — the hotel room lock system was electronic--very confusing

We returned yesterday after a week in Rome in the Gallia Hotel.
The location of the hotel is excellent. You are within walking distance to everything, taxi drivers know it (rather they know St. Maria Maggiore) and there are bus and metro stations very near.
The rooms vary between tiny and ok. The baths are newly done and clean. The towels had some gray stains-probably from being tied up or left outside? but they were nice and big though.
The maid and the girls serving breakfast were very nice.
Breakfast: was quite limited and quite bad (only one kind of bread, one of cheese, cold hard eggs, one salt shaker (!), bruised or old fruits.
The last three days of our stay brekie was served on the roof. First day was sunny and nice, second was raining, third was awfully cold and windy – but if you wanted breakfast you had to defy the elements !!! no alternatives.
Reception: As I said above the second breakfast-on-the-roof day was rainy. However no one from the reception bothered to a) come up and check or sent someone to check and b) help the poor hapless serving girl with the umbrellas. Thankfully the guests helped and managed after many tries and lots of dust to open them.
And this kind of behaviour was what the reception guys or the “principi” as we called them offered all the time: Arrogance. With the exception of one small young night guy – he was quite friendly.
Television: had a few local channels, not very good reception and it was about 3 inches big.
No room Service, only one bar where you could have a drink. That is if one of the principe would bother to get the key or serve you.
Newspapers: all in Italian
No maps or info available except from the advertisements.
All in all this is definitely not a four star. We can discuss if it is 3 or 2.
