My family of 6 stayed 2 nights at the end of an 11 day Italian trip. Upon checking in we were assigned 3 rooms in the "annex" which is several blocks from the main hotel. Well it was the worst set of rooms I have ever stayed in and this includes college stays at Motel 6. The carpets were stained, mildewed and stunk. The sink did not drain at all! The WINDOW UNIT AC did not work and the room was hot. No tub although we were supposed to have one. Hard foam pillows and when we called for down or other pillows we were informed they did not have any. No washclothes. So we called to change rooms but nothing avalable until the next day. No English channels at all except one CNN station and certainly no in room movies to take our mind off the fact that it stunk and was hot all night. That was just one rooms problems! The other room shower head broken and had to be held in hand.No room service either. Our room was also right over a busy street so very noisy until 3 AM at least.
Bottom line: If they say annex you say hell no!
The next night was a huge improvement, AC worked and was central as we moved into the main building. Nice tub and all three rooms were good although definitely not on par with the Westin Excellsior in Rome or Florence. My sons room smelled of smoke and my wife insisted she smelled urine in our room and you could tell where the toilet had overflowed (I did not smell anything but maybe my sense of smell was damaged from the prior nights stinkathon in the annex from hell). The rooftop terrace for afternoon snacks and breakfast is fabulous assuming the weather is good as there aren't many seats inside.
Overall there is no way this is a four star hotel and certainly does not compete with other high end hotels in the area for a similar rate. I give the main hotel 3 stars and the annex one because there is no negative star rating.
BEWARE THE ANNEX!
