We came to Rome at the end of our trip to Italy. We had been to Florence, Venice, Cinque Terre, Pisa, Siena, San Giamgianno, and other smaller towns. So, Rome was literally like the Indy 500 of Italy. Wide streets, numerous cars zipping down the roads, lots of noise and action. The hotel was located in a great spot to walk to all the major attractions: Colosseum, Forum, Pantheon, Trevi fountain, Spanish steps, Victor Emmanual monument (great view of Rome from the top, after taking the secret elevator), and numerous museums and sights. The Vatican is a much longer walk from here, but an easy bus ride, which the hotel staff helped us with. The first room we were in was too loud, so they moved us to their 'random room off the lobby' which had no number on the door, but it was quiet. It had no view, but who's in the hotel when in Rome anyhow? The breakfast was great. The staff was very helpful. The hotel was big but still charming. Remember, this is in the center of Rome and is old. So, embrace the Italian culture and older hotel. But, as it was old, it wasn't crummy old, but nice old. Small elevators, wide staircase. Some nice restaurants in area. Ask the staff for ideas. If you want to eat alot, go left out of the hotel door, left at corner, cross halfway down the block and find the restaurant that seems to serve all the big groups. Lots of food, good value. For more charming, family trattoria, take a right out the door, go about halfway down the block, turn right and go halfway down the big staircase to restaurant on the right. That is also the shortcut to the colosseum. Ask the staff. They are very helpful. We had them hire us a driver to take us to Pompeii, it was cheaper than the train. It was quite an experience driving on the autostrada and thru the backroads of Rome, with a real Italian driver...it was like being in the middle of the 'Italian Job' movie! Fun trip. Nice hotel. Great location.

Slightly out of date as we stayed in this holiday during October 2007 whilst we were in Rome for four and a half days. We had a standard double room on one of the upper floors (a must as all the streets in Rome are cobbled which makes the traffic noisey). The room was relatively compact but typical for Rome with a standard double bed, dressing table and a small fitted wardrobe. The bathroom had a bath/shower, sink and WC all of which were modern and clean.

We had breakfast at the hotel each day which provided a good mixture of cold food. The greatest positive about this hotel is the rooftop terrace where you can bring a bottle of wine, write your postcards and watch the sunset. The hotel is also very centrally located and as Rome is best explored on foot we didn't use public transport expect getting to and from the airport.

If we were to go back to Rome I would stay at this hotel again but only if we could get a room on one of the upper floors again.

Ps the lifts were very slow but only a small problem

  • Liked — Central location and fantastic rooftop terrace
  • Disliked — Slow lifts (but only a small problem)

Dec 8, 2008 | Trip type: Business

Stayed at this hotel as it was convenient to the business meeting I attended.

Pros:
Reception staff very helpful and pleasant greeting on arrival
Breakfast was ok but not brilliant
Breakfast staff very attentive
Price < 100 Euros per night
Room (16) was quiet as it was at the back of the hotel
Great location for tourists
Nearby restaurants of all standards (McDonalds upwards) are all within 10 mins walk.

As it was December, didn't see the roof garden everyone had mentioned

Cons
Small room (#16)
Bed was not long enough. I am only 1.9m tall, but due to the metal framed bed, it seemed too small. The matress was also nicely worn as it had a nice well in it. Good job I don't have a bad back
Shower attachment was broken, so had to hold the shower head in my hand
Tiles in the backroom broken and the wash basin taps needed 2-3 turns to get any water out.
Spurious hairs (not mine) in various parts of the bathroom (yuk)
Bar closed, as they had no barman on both nights

Overall it was only "ok". I would not go back, even if it was cheap. If you need a budget hotel for doing the tourist spots, then it should be fine.

We stayed at Hotel Pace Venezia for 4 nights. We are a mature couple who like to explore on foot, getting the real flavour of a city, its people and culture so we tend to research the location where we wish to stay thoroughly. We describe ourselves as backpackers at heart who have matured to enjoy reasonably comfortable accommodation. We chose Pace Venezia because it is conveniently located in the old city (Colosseum, Forum, Campodoglio, Vittorio Emanuelle monument etc) within easy walking distance of reasonable quality, low cost restaurants (if there is such a thing in Rome) and a short walk to Fontana de Trevi, Spanish Steps and open top bus routes.

The hotel staff were always helpful and we enjoyed the rooftop terrace and breakfast in the breakfast room. We always request a quiet room and they obliged (the front is noisy as the road is very busy). The room was comfortable, bathroom was clean, a fridge in the room and air conditioned. The room was serviced daily and whilst our chosen price range does not provide 5 star sparkle, the hotel was clean and comfortable with a good shower. We will return to Pace Venezia without hesitation.

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for my 21st birthday in July and had the most fantastic experience!

The room was a pleasant suprise after some of the reviews we had read and we were very happy. It was clean and to a very high standard, with air conditioning that was very much appreciated. I must say that the rooms were noisy through the night but being in the centre of a city this really should be expected.
Breakfast was also fantastic, we looked forward to it every morning and were never let down!

I must say though beside the fab location the best selling point of the hotel is the roof terrace...amazing! It also turned out to be the spot where i got engaged!

We had an amazing week in Rome and the hotel very much added to this experience..brilliant!

  • Liked — The views from the terrace, amazing!
  • Disliked — Noisy location.
