“not a 4 star hotel”

As I got closer to the room I started smelling MOLD , entering the room the smell intensified and
I noticed wall paper peeling off next to the bed, confirming my suspicion regarding humidity problems.
Unfortunately also the pillows smelled of MOLD.

The view was definitely not the prime view described in other reviews, as the window of Room 18 faces a rather shabby courtyard.
Interesting noises echoing fron the courtyard woke me up several times during the 3 nights I spent there, some sort of "angry ducks" ?? .

The first morning I took a very uncomfortable shower in the nicely renovated bathroom, as the shower head was not fixed firmly to its support.
I asked to have it repaired and the repair job lasted 1 shower, after which the shower head was hanging again limply from its support.

Breakfast was tendentially good but bread and pastry could have been of better quality i.e. more representative of Italian culinary excellence.

Room Tip: Avoid Room 18

Brilliant location - can walk just about everywhere from it. 10 - 15 mins from the coliseum & roman forum.
Staff polite & courteous enough although nothing special.
Room was a bit disappointing. Stains on the ceiling, wall paper damaged on the walls, mold in the very small shower, no plug in the sink, no trouser press (advertised in the hotel blurb), no iron.
In summary a tired Hotel in need of a bit of TLC & investment.
Breakfast (we were only B&B) was good and there are terrific views from the roof terrace.
This would in my opinion be a 3 star in the UK.
The above would not stop me recommending it, although would emphasis it's quality is the location & does not have a wow factor at all.

Room Tip: Ask if there any that have been recently updated.

On entering the hotel we were quickly checked in, we asked if we could have a high floor with a balcony, the man on reception advised us that it can be a little noisy due to the main road, we decided to take the room, we did not find it noisy so no problem, the room was had everything you needed for a comfortable stay, I had read a review were someone had complained the TV had no English speaking channels, you are in the most romantic city in the world, who needs a TV, the room safe did not work, but they offered us free use of a safe deposit box on reception, the shower had a mind of its own but it was ok, the breakfast was very good and the staff very nice, although the hotel had a few minor faults I have scored the hotel a excellent rating as I have saved the best till last, they have a roof terrace that I think is unrivalled in Rome, the view is excellent, next time in Rome will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: if you want to book a trip use "Dark Rome" they are excellent, get a high floor, and don...

Perfect location, Forum 5 minutes walk, Colosseum 10 mins, Trevi Fountain 15 mins, Piazza Navona 20 mins, S. Maria Maggiore likewise, Spanish Steps about 30 mins, all walking! View from the roof terrace unbelievable, none of us knew anywhere that had a view as good. Our room large enough, clean, niceand comfortable. It was relatively quiet, because it was at the back (previously specified). Breakfast was good and unlimited, saving us a lunchtime meal. Stayed for 9 nights. Check that rooms have been refurbished before booking. Ours had been.

The location of the hotel was excellent and everything of interest was in walking distance.
Overall because of its location I would rate it as being good value for money knowing that most hotels in Rome have a star rating greater than they deserve.
The hotel was quite dated and the rooms were very small but clean. We had a balcony overlooking the road outside which was nice and created a little extra space.
The bed was uncomfortable and the shower had a mind of its own.
The lifts were tiny so would not be ideal for people with wheelchairs or buggies.
The rooftop garden was nice but we found it difficult to access and there were no staff available to bring us a drink which was disappointing.
Having said that the staff were very nice.
A bit of modernisation would do wonders for this hotel.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a balcony.

Hotel is in a good location but that's about it. Booked five day break with Super Break. Hotel is cheap, dated, old fashioned and definitely not worthy of its four star rating. This expensive trip was ruined by poor service, poor quality and lack of customer service by hotel staff and super breaks. Hotel is in need of modernisation and new management. Super breaks need to give their staff training on customer service a d retention.

The hotel's location is perfect for seeing all the main tourist hotspots - round the corner from Piazza Venezia, an easy stroll to the Forum and Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon and a little further to walk to the Vatican City.

There are numerous places to eat close by - we liked Caesar's Pizzeria which is just around the corner; good quality food at reasonable (for Rome) prices. There is also a 'Scottish Pub' around the corner but there's nothing Scottish about it !!!!

The best thing about the hotel was the roof top terrace - amazing views of Rome - lovely to sit in the evening with a glass of wine and watch the sun set over St Peter's!

The hotel rooms were clean and very spacious - we had a corner room for three. There was an entrance hallway with space to hang coats and shoes which kept them out of the way of the room. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room and a mini bar which was very reasonably priced. The bathroom was also very spacious and towels were changed daily which was a nice surprise. There was a TV in the room but no English speaking channels - we didn't mind as we were out most of the time and it was nice to get away from the TV. There was free WiFi, so my teenage son was able to keep in touch with his friends.

The staff were friendly, helpful and courteous.

A good, continental cold buffet was on offer at Breakfast with copious platters quickly replaced as they emptied.

The lifts were on the small side and the rooms could do with updating, but prices were very reasonable. Room could be noisy as it is on a main road but we did sleep very well.

Room Tip: Try to get a room at the rear of the hotel - some have terraces.
