“Central Rome package hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

The best two things about the Pace Helvezia Hotel are its and location and the view from the roof terrace. Otherwise, the rooms are dark, though air-conditioned with a window unit, and the staff not very friendly or helpful. If you get this hotel at a good rate, then it's acceptable. Most things you want to see in Rome are in easy walking distance. Being so central, it's surrounded by noisy traffic, and the air-conditioners help to eliminate the noise. If you can get a room on the roof terrace you will be very pleased, but they are not easy to book.

Room Tip: Book a room on the roof terrace

Honestly, although the view is spectacular, this hotel needs a lot of work in order to be viewed as a "4 star" hotel: Our room (95) had a very old, uncomfortable bed (you could literally feel the springs in the mattress), the pillows were incredibly flat, I was bitten by something the first night I was there, the toilet seat was loose- it shifted anytime we sat on it, the shower doors didn't shut correctly because the rubber edge is missing on one door (therefore, the water went everywhere), the shower head came loose and didn't hold up, on our second day the light blocking shade got stuck- luckily the handyman was around and fixed it (he also fixed the wobbly toilet). In the evening, when Claudio is in the front desk chatting away on the phone, he just can't "be bothered," everytime I asked him a question about where something was he would just brush me away. The day staff were friendlier. Also, they need to stop serving instant coffee at breakfast, nobody was drinking it. I am not one to stay at fancy hotels, but the minimum I expect is for a curtious staff and things that work in our room! What a dissapointment! This is a crummy old hotel!

Although a little old fashioned, we enjoyed our stay, we had requested a high level room and were pleased to be in the 6th floor, as if lower the traffic to the front would have caused us issues. The location is excellent and a short walk to the Trevi fountian and others. The room was large and well equipped. Breakfast was OK, but the rolls were hard and the choice a little limiting. The roof top terrace is stunning and sitting in the evening looking across the the Coloseum and Vatican City makes this hotel very individual.

Room Tip: Dont miss out on the roof terrace

Stopped here 2-4 August and have to say that the location is perfect. It was an easy walk to all of the major tourist attractions. The free breakfast was very good, with a wide variety of cold meats, cheeses and pastries available. Yes, the roof terrace really does have great views!
My only grumble was that the bed was far too hard. It really was beyond firm and more like sleeping on stone, I woke up with back ache each morning. This is a real shame as the hotel was good other than this.

Room Tip: Not room 9!

We stayed here as part of an organised tour in February 2012 for our first trip to Rome. I'd read some of the reviews and wondered just how small our room would be, but I've got to say that the hotel was fine. The bedroom was a good size and the bathroom was far larger than was necessary. The room was clean and well-furnished, although lots of things seemed to squeak: the wardrobe door, the floorboards, but I'd have to be very picky to complain about them!

The room had the bathroom window on the front of the hotel but the bedroom window faced a small courtyard at the side, so we didn't have much traffic noise. The breakfasts were buffet style continental and there was plenty of choice.

The public areas could do with a lick of paint and the bar was never open (our guide said that he'd never found the bar open in all the time he'd been going there!), but there are lots of nice places to go within a very short stroll of the hotel. Do search out the roof-top terrace because it's really sweet and the views are fantastic.

It's an excellent location for sight-seeing: Trajan's market is almost next door; the forums, Trajan's column, Capitoline hill, Vittorio Emanuele monument, Trevi Fountain a very short walk away. Buses stop close to the hotel too. There are some very good restaurants near by. We can't wait to go back to Rome and we would be very happy to stay here again.

Stayed here with my family from the 8th - 11th July. TRansfers were quick and painless booked through a private transfer company. Hotel reception nice and clean and cool! Important with it being 36 degrees outside. Two working lifts to our rooms always a plus. Rooms were all we needed. two comfortable twin beds, desk, wardrobe and a bathroom with shower cubicle, b-day toilet and sink. Ok so the room could do with a littel TLC, some wallpaper had been pulled off and the shower door didnt close properly so there was a small flood when you had a shower. However, the negative reviews on here seem silly as this had no negative impact on my stay at all. The air con was fab and a must and the windows kept out most of the traffic noise which was great as it never stops in Rome. The roof terrace was an absolute highlight with unbelieveable views to the colleseum, Emmanuel monument and vatican. Loved sitting up there with a bottle of wine in the evening and sunbathing in the afternoon after a hard few hours sightseeing.P>S take a bottle opener we found it very useful. Five minutes from the Trevi, 10 minutes from the colleseum and a striaght half hour walk to the river, 10 minutes from the Campo Di Firori Fab! Breakfast was continental but there was plenty of it and the coffee looked lovely. Service at the hotel was great too. My parents had an isue with their room and the maintenance man was there within 5 minutes to fix it and when he couldnt they were moved room straight away.theres also a lovely little restaurant on the way to the trevi where we had a great meal for four people two courses coffee and alcohol for 88 euros! i would definately recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a rome at the back if you can or with a balcony, but according the the receptin staff its &q...
