Just spent 9 nights at the Globus and was completely satisfied. Had a standard king size room and found it to be quite large by European standards and included a balcony. Also saw a room with two queen/double size beds (traveled with a group of family & friends) and found that room type to be pretty large also. I paid 144.00eur per night and feel it was a good deal for Rome. Everything worked great in the room. One small negative was no hot water one morning but that was it, no other complaints.
Staff was helpful but not in your face. If you needed help they were there to assist, if not a smile and a welcome back to the hotel when walking in the door was what you got. Arrived at the hotel fairly early AM and room was not available just yet. They allowed us to stash our luggage and have a coffee. Room was ready in less than half an hour and check-in went great.
Breakfast was fine every AM and found everything well stocked. Breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, juice, cold cereal, fruit (fresh fruit rather than that syrupy fruit salad you typically get), pastries, bread, yogurt, cheese, eggs, sliced cold meats & a warm sausage/wiener type meat. Basically a typical buffet type breakfast. I didn't eat an actual dinner at the hotel but did have an appetizer and a drink at the restaurant one evening and it was fine and the service good.
Location is close to the Policlinico metro stop (10 minute walk at most) and the metro gives you easy access to pretty much all Rome has to offer. I'd say once on the metro your looking at about 10-15 minutes travel time on the train to all the big sites. There's a tabacchi shop right across the street where you can get bottled water, coffee, pastries, sandwich, snacks, wine/beer, etc.... Not a huge selection of restaurants in the area but there are some so you won't starve if your looking for a bite.
Do have a restaurant recomendation to make and though it's not right by the hotel, it is definitely worth a trip and easy to get to. The name of the place is Ristorante Mario's (www.ristorantemarios.com) and is a short walk from the Cavour metro stop (third stop from Policlinico and no change at Termini required). The food here is fantastic! I ended up eating here three times which is something I have never done before while traveling. It's really that good. If you get Enzo as your waiter you will be in good hands. He speaks great English and is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and truly make it a fun experience.
Would gladly stay at the Globus on any future trips to Rome with no hesitation.
Ciao!
