I stayed at the Hotel Barberini in June for two nights. I arrived in Rome at 9am, and upon getting out of the cab at the hotel was accosted by a gypsy and her two children who unsuccessfully attempted to pickpocket me. Believe what you hear about them, they are very clever and I caught her with her hand in my front pocket as her 10yr old daughter was trying to distract me by crying and grabbing my arm. I got my money, and the bellman came out and they left. No harm, just be careful. They allowed me to check-in at that early hour, and the room was compact, but clean and up-to-date. It overlooked a small courtyard, but the nice rooftop restaurant had an amazing view of all of rome and decent breakfast and drinks. The bathroom was modern, with a small stall shower, but linens and toiletries were excellent. The lobby is small but pretty, and the hotel is very well located to many sights, including Via Veneto. I definitely recommend this place for a short to medium stay in Rome.

My wife and I recently got married and spent our honeymoon in Europe. We spent our last three days and nights in Rome, Italy.

My wife had been to Rome in the past and wanted to stay near the Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps. She found the Hotel Barberini on the internet and liked the location of the hotel and the fact it was rated a "four star" hotel. My wife booked three nights at the Hotel Barberini and we looked forward to ending our honeymoon in Rome.

We checked into the Hotel Barberini and were informed that we had been upgraded to a junior suite instead of our standard room. I had already been warned that hotel rooms in Europe were expensive and small by United States standards. We got into our room and found it to to be very nice, but not great.

On our third and last night at the hotel, we came back to our room late in the afternoon to be told by hotel clerk they had moved us to a standard room along with our belongings without our prior knowledge or consent.

I expressed my dissatifaction with the hotel clerk. The hotel clerk's attitude was we were lucky to have been upgraded in the first place. I explained to him that I would have been satisfied with our original room, if they were going to go into our room and remove our personal belongings without our prior knowledge or consent. I also explained to the clerk that I could have accepted the room change had we been told at some point there was a possability of a room change. We were never compensated or even given an apology.

I am not one to complain, but felt this was wrong and wanted others to know how this hotel treats their customers. I would not recommend the Hotel Barberini in Rome to anyone.

The location of this hotel is great, which is why we stayed here. They room was small, but is typical for Rome. The bathroom was nice. We LOVED our balcony and sat out on it every night, drinking local wine and watching the night life of the city. The breakfast was good, more than some hotels have in Europe. It is a very clean hotel and we would stay there again! I would recommend it for someone who wants a smaller hotel in a great location.

Rome: Hotel Barberini "A very good hotel"
Date: September 2007
Reviewer: John & Patricia, Dublin, Ireland
We had a very enjoyable five day holiday in Rome at the end of August 2007. We selected the Hotel Barberini partly for its central location but mainly for the positive reviews it had received on TripAdvisor. We were very pleased with our choice of hotel – all the staff were pleasant and helpful, the bedroom and bathroom were clean and of adequate size, the air conditioning kept the bedroom temperature at a comfortable level despite Rome's 30 degree heat and the rooftop breakfast had a good variety of juices, cereals, breads, cakes etc (and a fabulous view over the rooftops of Rome). Two good restaurants we dined in near the hotel were the Grill and Wine Restaurant (beside Hotel White: a five minute walk down Via Rasella, straight across Via del Traforo and into Via in Acrione) and the Antica Trattoria Tritone Restaurant (on Via del Maroniti – which lies between Via in Arcione and Via del Tritone – this restaurant was recommended to us by the hotel).

  • Disliked — moderate uphill walk from Trevi Fountain area

My husband and I spent 4 days at Hotel Barberini for part of our honeymoon. It was a lovely place from the staff to the decor. After our 8 hour flight, we were greeted with a basket of fruit in our room. The room was clean with an in-room safe. At our request, each evening the front desk staff made our dinner reservations. The hotel is within walking distance to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, which made it easy to begin our exploration of Rome from the minute we arrived. I would definitely stay at Hotel Barberini the next time I travel to Rome.
