My wife and I recently got married and spent our honeymoon in Europe. We spent our last three days and nights in Rome, Italy.
My wife had been to Rome in the past and wanted to stay near the Trevi Fountain and Spanish steps. She found the Hotel Barberini on the internet and liked the location of the hotel and the fact it was rated a "four star" hotel. My wife booked three nights at the Hotel Barberini and we looked forward to ending our honeymoon in Rome.
We checked into the Hotel Barberini and were informed that we had been upgraded to a junior suite instead of our standard room. I had already been warned that hotel rooms in Europe were expensive and small by United States standards. We got into our room and found it to to be very nice, but not great.
On our third and last night at the hotel, we came back to our room late in the afternoon to be told by hotel clerk they had moved us to a standard room along with our belongings without our prior knowledge or consent.
I expressed my dissatifaction with the hotel clerk. The hotel clerk's attitude was we were lucky to have been upgraded in the first place. I explained to him that I would have been satisfied with our original room, if they were going to go into our room and remove our personal belongings without our prior knowledge or consent. I also explained to the clerk that I could have accepted the room change had we been told at some point there was a possability of a room change. We were never compensated or even given an apology.
I am not one to complain, but felt this was wrong and wanted others to know how this hotel treats their customers. I would not recommend the Hotel Barberini in Rome to anyone.
