My husband and my parents stayed at this hotel for 7 nights and our expectations were blown away. The rooms were quite large (queen bed with desk, pull-out couch and enormous bathroom). I believe that if you stay on the 7th floor you will most likely get a balcony which was a real treat! We slept with the patio doors open every night! The rooms were very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful especially when it came to ensuring we got on our buses for tours and our flights back home. The breakfast was great which offered a variety of meats, yogurts, cheeses, cereal, fresh fruit, juices and more! The location was a highlight as the area was great for shopping, dining and wasn't as congested as across the bridge where several organized school trips must of been staying. Whether you're there for 2 nights or 7 nights, I highly recommend this hotel as you will get your barrings quickly and enjoy the location. We even found a restaurant we went back to several times during our stay called San Marco which was a 3 mins walk from the hotel. Food and service was amazing. The restaurant across the street from the hotel was also very impressive. Too bad we waited until the end of the trip to eat there! There is also a quaint little deli/store down the road where we bought meats and cheeses and wine and water to have for mid-day snacks.

Very good hotel in an excellent location - close to everything, but away from hordes of tourists. Nice restaurants in the area. Breakfast could have been better - you might have expected a bit more variety so at the end of day 3 it gets really boring, but quality of food is good and service is perfect.

We stayed at Hotel Cicerone off and on for two weeks as we traveled around Italy the end of Jan. and first of Feb. We agree that the beds are hard and the pillows are awful, but everything else was great. The staff will go out of their way to be nice and helpful. The breakfast was good even though I was not crazy about the type of meat they eat for breakfast. It's not American bacon and sausage. They had enough other stuff that you would not go hungry. The laundry service is excellent; reasonable and fast. A little known secret that I have not seen anyone write about is the hotel restaurant. We did not discover it until the last few days ourselves, but once we did we did not want to have dinner anywhere else. For E 20 you get a three course meal with wine, coffee, water. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. I still cannot get over what a good deal it is and the gourmet food was fantastic. Was so disappointed that it was closed on our last night there (Sunday). Please people....try that restaurant...you won't be sorry. I think you have to be a hotel guest to get the E 20 deal though.
Also, another tip... try the room service for hot cocoa or tea. I had the hot cocoa a lot. You get a huge pot of cocoa and a plate of biscotti or cookies. It's enough for two. Great little treat on cold or rainy days like we had. It was E 3 plus service charge.

I was last October in Rome with a group. The hotel was booked by a travel agent. The rooms were smelling badly and had nothing to do with the fotos on the site. They told us that the hotel is under renovation ... until then i would recommend it only as a cheap stay close to the Vatican and the monuments of Rome.
