“worst hotel ever!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

We stayed at this hotel from 10/16-10/18/13 and it was by far the WORST hotel we have been in a number of years! Mold in the tub is at least 1/2 inch thick in the corners and moldy along almost all the caulking in the bathroom.... In addition, black mold coming out of vents for heating/cooling. When we asked for another room, hotel staff was rude and we were told the hotel was booked solid, so no new room. Then, the hotel has the audacity to charge 9 Euro per 24 hours for WIFI, hmm.... Bad moldy/dingy smell in room when you enter. Staff rude and freq passes the buck. I went down to front desk to ask about safe and front desk staff tells me there are instructions on the front of the safe ( FYI, I CAN READ) and NO instructions on or anywhere near safe, then front desk give me WRONG instructions, have to wait FOREVER.... OR NEVER, for someone to respond and end up figuring it out on my own to lock the safe. Breakfast staff rude, overworked, and even dangerous.... broken glass left by a "wait" staff for 5 minutes under juice machines for "cleaning" staff to clean up so that no less than 3 elderly guests slipped on broken glass.... hope no broken hips for this hotel! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! So many nicer hotels throughout our stay in Italy with same "4 star" rating..... DEFINITELY NOT 4 STAR, MAYBE 1.

When we visited in September, I made my decision to stay here solely on price. After booking, I was concerned that some reviewers said they had dirty rooms, bad service and a generally bad experience. What we encountered was a slightly chaotic reception (but it was a Saturday morning and very busy), however the porters looked after our luggage well and took it to our room. Our double room was clean, had a lovely bathroom, was bigger than I expected for a city hotel and was quiet at night, even though it faced a main road (we were 6 floors up). The breakfast was diverse - there was a good choice of hot and cold food - however, the hot food consisted of just tinned hotdog sausages, beans and boiled eggs. That was it. There was also a 15 minute queue to get into the breakfast room at 8.00am. Having paid less than £150 for two nights though, I wasn't too disappointed. And the overall location was great - walkable to most attractions if you're up for it, or 5 mins from the nearest metro, and then 3 or 4 stops to Termini. Overall, I'd go back again at this price, but would look at my options if the cost went up.

Room Tip: Don't go for the 'Smart' room thinking it's a bargain without checking the terms - a...

This hotel has a nice lobby, but that is where it ends. This was the most disappointing hotel. Staff very unfriendly. Rooms well below par, outdated with dirty rugs and furniture that was dented and in poor shape. Bathroom was filled with black mold around the shower base. Asked for my room to be changed and they refused said it would be too complicated. Asked for it to be cleaned said "ok" but no one came in to take care of it. Even the following day after room was supposed to be cleaned the mold was exactly the same as the previous day. Never touched at all. No excuse for heavy black mold in the shower, disgusting hotel. Would NOT Stay there again. Absolutely do not recommend.

A very busy lobby a caution don't even think of asking for change you will receive a curt NO CHANGE. Breakfast area was also very busy as there seemed to be several group tours at this hotel. Our room was small and needing updating the carpet was tired. The bathroom small but functional, shower was located in a narrow tub with black mold where the tile met the tub. The elevator were never level with the floor. As part of a tour group we ate one evening meal at this establishment it was OK nothing to reave about.

Room Tip: Watch your step when getting on and off elevator.

We just returned from a 14 day tour of Italy with Perillo Tours. This was our first hotel. When we arrived our room was not ready even though we were on a tour and they were expecting us. We had to leave all of our bags there with the bellman so we could go out and explore. Upon return they could not find our luggage. they later brought it up. Where was it? Who knows. We proceeded up to our room and the first look was its all red, the floors are dirty and its average size. This hotel turned off the AC at 9pm so we had to leave the window open all night every night and they have no screens. We went to the registration to ask a question and they sent us over to the next counter and I swear the same person came over to help us there. Every time we came out of the elevator there was a lobby full of people waiting in huge long lines for registration. It was a constant struggle to get through the mass of people every day. They turn guests over like hotcakes. One night we went to request the WiFi and this man takes out his book and asks which device would you like to activate and my boyfriend says his phone and I say also the computer and the man says only one device per activation. 9 euro per device per night. So I said forget it its too much and when my boyfriend said OK we changed our mind the man got so mad he says " you dont want it now" throws his pen down on the desk slams the notebook shut and huffs. I just laughed and said WOW. My boyfriend just said sorry you have to work so hard to help us by opening a notebook. The rudeness was continual. The best thing about this hotel and the only good thing was its location. Everyone on our tour complained about the same things. It was small, dirty and staff was rude.

A conveniently situated hotel for seeing the sites of Rome. Had a large room so no problems with space. Tea and Coffee making facilities but no milk, but a jug full was eventually acquired from the restaurant. The staff did not appreciate me re-filling the jug at breakfast each morning, but eventually they allowed it. The room had a fridge but no ice tray, don't even bother to try and get ice from the bar, the response will be a very short no, not allowed, phone room service. Other hotel staff were friendly and helpful, such a pity that the restaurant and bar staff missed out on the training, it's the customer that pays the bill and therefore the wages!!!!!!

Room Tip: The 7th floor rooms have a balcony and a corner room will be larger.

A roommate and I stayed at Hotel Cicerone for 3 nights prior to a cruise, with the property being one that was made available by the cruise vendor for a pre-cruise stay. I would equate our stay to being one at a property like Holiday Inn - no surprises. Our room was clean, but small, which is not unusual for older European hotels. However, I've seen larger shower stalls in a small motorhome, so suffice it to say the bathrooms are tiny! The location of the hotel was very good, being closer to a residential area, but an easy walk to the Vatican. We also walked to the usual tourist sites - Spanish Steps, Trevi, Pantheon, Piazza Navona - without difficulty. We went to the Colosseum and Forum with a prearranged tour, but it would be easily reached using the metro from the hotel. We only ate buffet breakfast at the hotel, which was decent but could have used better coffee. The best thing we found there was a nice little bar off of reception, with a good-looking, and very friendly bartender named Dominic, who was always welcoming when we returned from exploring Rome! The management was never a problem for us during our stay, the concierge was always helpful and friendly. And when they were faced with nearly 240 people on the same cruise checking out and waiting for transfer buses on Sunday morning they handled the crush well. I felt bad for them that some of the cruise passengers gave them a hard time about paying city taxes upon checkout, perhaps thinking they should have been included in package pricing.
