We just returned from Rome and recommend this hotel. We were a little worried about the Splendide given some of the prior reviews, but found a very plush, smallish hotel which we would certainly return to again. The hotel is situated very near others, such as the Sofitel and the Marriott, just outside of the Borghese. The Spanish Steps and Via Veneto are 10 minute and 5 minute walks away, respectfully. The metro stops are probably more like a 15 minute walk in either direction.
Our room was large, plush, and very clean. We were on a lower floor, and did not have a view of any sort, but as we were on our feet most of the day walking around the city, this did not matter to us. Likewise, the smallish fitness room (essentially a treadmill and a bike) had no demerits from us.
We did not utilize the high end restaurant, but did have breakfast daily as part of our rate. The breakfast area, on floor 6 at the top of the hotel provided a great view over the Borghese, with glimpses of St. Peter's and the surrounding hills.
Breakfast was good, and had a variety of mainly cold items. The wait staff was prompt and courteous and left nothing undesired.
Overall, all the staffers we encountered were very professional and top notch.
