Though the cab to the Splendide was not memorable, the hotel was. Quiet, but excellent location … 5 minute walk to the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, all that you can take in for as long as you choose.

We did arrive early but the staff made up our room within 10 minutes. Check-in and concierge service at the front desk was quickly and efficiently taken care of, with our dinner arrangements completed as we waited for the room. Our room was large and extremely comfortable even though we were “street side”. Bath was excellent also. Laptop Internet connection was “reasonable” by European standards and w/o issue.

We really liked the smaller size (certainly NOT a MEGA- hotel!) and the overall condition. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet with great views of the Vatican and Rome-Cityscape ,on the Terrace. Great coffee and just relaxing for us. Will certainly stay there when I return to Rome!!

Our room was beautiful; they upgraded us. Great location, minutes from everything. Restaurant on top floor, very good but expensive. Staff was efficient, friendly and very accommodating. Street cafes - as soon as you sit, check doubles. Stand at bar for breakfast and lunch. Costs a lot less. Nino's was our favorite place toeat. American Express booked the best tours.

We booked the hotel through our travel agent so we did not have any advance knowledge of this establishment. As most hotels the concierge hit us up as soon as we hit the counter for tours. I don't mind that because its usually a win win, they get a piece of the business and you get a tour from a reputable provider. However, in this instance we were sold a private Vatican tour where everything was supposedly included but as we soon found out it was not. When the dispute came between me and the tour operator the concierge stood in front of me and did not own up to what he had stated the tour would be. Secondly, having an inclination as to what type of guy this was I paid my tour bill in cash t the concierge, I included an extra 20 Euro on purpose and re-asked if this amount was correct after he counted it. He smiled and said this was correct change. I kindly told him the extra was his tip. Small price to pay to know the character of the people you are dealing with. In short, the hotel is very nice with a great location. However, I just cant give a good review when you can't trust the staff a what they tell you. As out of towners, we rely on them for good information, at least I think its their job to do so

The staff were excellent - very friendly and nothing too much trouble. Although our room overlooked the street, the double glazing ensured a quiet room which was very roomy and comfortable and made our stay even more enjoyable. The hotel was located about 5 minutes walk from the Borghese Gardens and Via Veneto and there were plenty of restaurants to chose from within the vicinity. We used the hotel restaurant , which had wonderful views of St Peters, for a special birthday and couldn't find fault with it and the hotel even arranged for complimentary champagne to be served in our room which was a lovely gesture. A good selection for breakfast was served in the dining room again with wonderful views.
Notwithstanding all of the above, one good feature was the fact that the hotel was so centrally placed and within easy reach of all the main sightseeing attractions and by chance we chose a week where almost all museums were free.
The one big downfall, and not the fault of the hotel, was how expensive Rome is even taking into account the poor exchange rate.

My Partner booked a surprise trip to Rome (to propose!) over the Easter break and we stayed at the fantastic Splendide Royal. We arranged an airport collection via conceirge and the driver was waiting in arrivals as promised - recommend this service for sheer ease!

We had a spacious room with a separate walk in wardrobe, large marble bathroom and huge bed. We stayed at the hotel for 6 nights and found it faultless. The staff (particularly the front desk) were really helpful and friendly, greeting us with a wave every time we left or arrived back at the hotel.

Breakfast was simple but plenty of choice and the staff were helpful and kept the buffet tables constantly topped up.

Hotel is a great location for the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain (5 minute walk) and the Via Veneto for the restaurants (recommend Harry's for the best steak in red wine sauce, pricey but worth the money). We spent a lovely afternoon lounging and strolling in Borghese Park.

Would recommend the use of the 48 hour guided bus tour route, on the first day we completed the whole circuit on the bus using the headphones just to get our bearings. We then used the bus like a taxi and hopped on and off at each attraction. The nearest stop, Barberini Plaza is only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Another thing we would recommend is the guide at the Collesseum, for an extra 10 euros we got to skip the huge queue and found the guide really informative. We didn't use this service at The Vatican as it was a 2 hour tour and we felt that we would rather explore the musuems at our pace.

We dined at the Mirabelle restaurant on one night and although extremely expensive it was worth every penny as the food and service were excellent. Only disappointment was that we dressed up for this Michelin starred restaurant (as you would!) yet there were people who felt it necessary to wear tracksuits and trainers which I felt was a bit disrespectful as the restaurant clearly had a dress code and other guests had made the effort.

All in all we would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody wanting to visit Rome, yes it is pricey but worth the money in this fantastic city. Can't wait to return!
