“Wonderful experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2013 via mobile

Our family of 4 stayed here for a week. The staff was very helpful and nice giving us lots of restaurant and shopping recommendations. Location was excellent. Breakfast each morning at the rooftop restaurant was lovely.

My husband and I spent three nights at this lovely hotel and had a wonderful stay. The room was spacious and spotless. The location, right by the Spanish Steps could not be better! Lots of good restaurants nearby.
The terrace at the Mirabelle restaurant has a great view of Rome by night.
The only downside is that Wifi is not included and you have to pay for Wifi per device.

A bit shabby but looks like historically old. Sufficient buffet breakfast. Jacuzzi en suite and sun beds in the terrace overlooking Borghese adds a nice touch. 3 minutes down the hill to Spagna.
Returning to the hotel - very tiring.
Mirabelle restaurant with a great view over Rome, one of the best views in the city. The food is very stylish but the size is poor.
Concierge is helpful but forgot to deduct a limo transfer added by mistake at the check-out. Maybe on purpose, maybe not.
The stay definetely gives a touch of luxury to casual life.

Ever since I had come across the Hotel's website, I had longed to stay here. That was a few years ago and after numerous trips to Rome, I finally found the right time and chance to book a Superior suite with terrace here. I had chosen their Suite Experience package, which includes free Wifi and breakfasts for two.

Check in at 2.30pm after a long trip (hydrofoil from Ischia, train from Naples) was swift and very cordial. Our assigned room was 602 on the 6th floor. The suite has an average sized bedroom with a bathroom (twin sinks and a jacuzzi tub, no showers) and a separated huge sitting area with a small powder room (nice for putting make up!).

But the disappointment of the suite was the realization that we had been given a suite with one of the smallest terrace, a 11 sqm one, with practically no views. If you stand on your toes, you could see some buildings' roof tops as the walls are too high to see anything. Where is the much touted Borghese Garden views, I thought?

The next morning, we had wonderful breakfasts (think smoked salmon and Mozzarella di Buffala?) on their 6th floor Limonaia Ristorante and saw the Borghese Garden views, which to us, is actually no big deal ... So, it might be a blessing in disguise as our suite was blissfully quiet for a good night's sleep, in preparation for a 16 hours trip back home the next day. In contrast, rooms with the Garden views all had to face a quiet road, with the occasional cars and scooters.

Overall, the Hotel's common areas are luxuriously appointed, so much so that while decorating our new classical home two years ago, I had taken some ideas from this Hotel's colour theme and decor styles. All front desk personnel whom we had come across were kind, helpful and speaks very good English - not at all snobbish.

Some small glitches of our stay were -
when we set the air-con at 23 degree C in suite 602, the air-con kept turning itself off and on during the night, so it was sort of irritating! That the Hotel only has two kinds of pillows, a softer one and a harder one, no memory or contour pillows here! Lastly, the free wifi password can only be used for one item only (maybe we should have asked for more passwords for other Iphones and Ipads?) and it's signals was weak and intermittent to say the least.

As for the Hotel's location, it is rather close to the Spanish Steps shopping area, and about 10-15 minutes walk to the Trevi Fountain. The immediate area of the Hotel is both quiet and classy, with some higher end restaurants and maybe 2 Chinese restaurants (the one called Tianjin is quite good!). Not my favourite part of Rome to stay, though.

Overall, for the price we had paid, I thought the package was of good value as it was both a luxuriously and romantic way to end our last night in Italy, after a 10 nights trip that had taken us all the way from Venice (for the Redentore fireworks) to Naples, Capri and Ischia. Grazie mille for a great stay!

Room Tip: Junior suites with a larger terrace and Borghese Garden views on the 5th floor might be a better cho...

The staff at this hotel were extremely attentive and friendly. When the room above us sprung a leak causing a water fall in our bathroom they were on it quickly and while we had to change rooms, they made every effort to make us comfortable and minimize disruption. The concierge staff were very knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations for places to eat as well.

Our hotel rooms were adjoining and were perfect for our five. I would definitely recommend this option for families. The rooms were spacious for European hotel rooms. The included breakfast was the best we had of any place we stayed while in Italy, and the view was breathtaking as you drank your morning cappuccino.

While initially I thought the location was a bit out of the way, it turned out to be perfect from my standpoint. Right down the street from the Borghese Gallery and Park with a big play ground, carousel and zoo for the kids when they got tired of touring ruins and museums. A 5-10 minute walk to the Spanish steps and perhaps 20 minutes to the Pincio Gardens above the Piazza Popolo with one of the best views of Rome available - definitely something to do at sunset, and then stop back at the Spanish steps for some gelato or a drink. Also there is a hop-on/hop-off bus just down the street for a good orientation tour of the city.

Every afternoon I set out, map in hand, and walked around Rome. Some of the walks were long, but Trevi Fountain, the Quirinale Palace, Palazzo Barberini and many other places are not too far to walk. Taxis were also plentiful.

Overall I would stay there again without a second thought.

Room Tip: For families I recommend the adjoining rooms.

My friend and I stayed at the Splendide Royal for 5 nights and really enjoyed it. It is quite pricey, but it was extremely comfortable, elegant, and incredibly well air conditioned! It is tough, practically impossible, to find hotel rooms in Europe that are actually cool. European air conditioning is never close to what it is in the U.S., and when it's hot outside, it's a huge relief to come back to a cool, comfortable room at the end of a long day of exploring.
Our room, with two twin beds, was a nice size, with good closet space, a gorgeous bathroom, and lovely bathrobes. The breakfasts were wonderful and the view from the restaurant is gorgeous.
The only complaint I had, which evidently is quite common in Europe, is that there was no free wifi in the hotel rooms or anywhere in the hotel other than at one computer off of the lobby that guests could use for free. That was a bit aggravating, given the costliness of the rooms.
Other than that, I really enjoyed the hotel. The location is excellent...not too far from the Spanish Steps, easily walkable to many sites and to public transportation, and deliciously quiet. I would highly recommend it!

I spent many hours researching hotels for our 3 night stay in Rome. It was the final stay for our 18 day trip, so I wanted this to be fantastic. Although the hotel is "nice" it is not worth the money, not even close. We paid $650 USD per night for a terrace room junior suite, and I would highly recommend that for the money, stay somewhere else. Other than the great service from the hotel staff, for the money this was a big disappointment. The hotel needs a major renovation for updates

Dear Guest,

thank you very much for your review. All of our junior suites are updated and some of our top of the line rooms. We have wonderful views on the Villa Borghese garden and we usually have some of the more competitive prices in the City. With all the honesty we believe our rooms and in particular the junior suites are definitely worth the money.
