Ever since I had come across the Hotel's website, I had longed to stay here. That was a few years ago and after numerous trips to Rome, I finally found the right time and chance to book a Superior suite with terrace here. I had chosen their Suite Experience package, which includes free Wifi and breakfasts for two.
Check in at 2.30pm after a long trip (hydrofoil from Ischia, train from Naples) was swift and very cordial. Our assigned room was 602 on the 6th floor. The suite has an average sized bedroom with a bathroom (twin sinks and a jacuzzi tub, no showers) and a separated huge sitting area with a small powder room (nice for putting make up!).
But the disappointment of the suite was the realization that we had been given a suite with one of the smallest terrace, a 11 sqm one, with practically no views. If you stand on your toes, you could see some buildings' roof tops as the walls are too high to see anything. Where is the much touted Borghese Garden views, I thought?
The next morning, we had wonderful breakfasts (think smoked salmon and Mozzarella di Buffala?) on their 6th floor Limonaia Ristorante and saw the Borghese Garden views, which to us, is actually no big deal ... So, it might be a blessing in disguise as our suite was blissfully quiet for a good night's sleep, in preparation for a 16 hours trip back home the next day. In contrast, rooms with the Garden views all had to face a quiet road, with the occasional cars and scooters.
Overall, the Hotel's common areas are luxuriously appointed, so much so that while decorating our new classical home two years ago, I had taken some ideas from this Hotel's colour theme and decor styles. All front desk personnel whom we had come across were kind, helpful and speaks very good English - not at all snobbish.
Some small glitches of our stay were -
when we set the air-con at 23 degree C in suite 602, the air-con kept turning itself off and on during the night, so it was sort of irritating! That the Hotel only has two kinds of pillows, a softer one and a harder one, no memory or contour pillows here! Lastly, the free wifi password can only be used for one item only (maybe we should have asked for more passwords for other Iphones and Ipads?) and it's signals was weak and intermittent to say the least.
As for the Hotel's location, it is rather close to the Spanish Steps shopping area, and about 10-15 minutes walk to the Trevi Fountain. The immediate area of the Hotel is both quiet and classy, with some higher end restaurants and maybe 2 Chinese restaurants (the one called Tianjin is quite good!). Not my favourite part of Rome to stay, though.
Overall, for the price we had paid, I thought the package was of good value as it was both a luxuriously and romantic way to end our last night in Italy, after a 10 nights trip that had taken us all the way from Venice (for the Redentore fireworks) to Naples, Capri and Ischia. Grazie mille for a great stay!
Junior suites with a larger terrace and Borghese Garden views on the 5th floor might be a better cho...
