“Walking distance to Vatican!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

Spent a week there. Very good location. Walking distance to Vatican, bus stop less than block away, and many fabulous restaurants nearby. Hotel staff were very helpful. Had a problem with shower the first morning and it was repaired by the time we returned that night. Hallway noise a little too much but then again you can't control other noisy guests.

This was our first trip to Rome, and as a family group we had naively ignored the advice never to do so in August, We had a great time though, and this was due in no small part to the hotel and staff. The location is ideal for accessing much of the City, while the staff were more than helpful if we needed directions or advice.

Decent air conditioning was an absolute must, and we were delighted to find that the rooms had this throughout. The rooms were primarily functional but very comfortable - better than some previous reviews had inferred.

Breakfast was ideal - plenty there and a good setting in the secluded open air table area. If we had one criticism, its that the lift can only take 3 at a time - and when you're staying near the top of the hotel...and been out all day in the heat...and the kids jump in the lift ahead of you... you just have to be patient.

So would I recommend the hotel to other visitors - absolutely. We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Rome and when we return (which I think we will) we would be more than happy to return to Hotel Diplomatic. Thank you to everyone for making our stay such a happy and memorable one for the whole family.

Room Tip: Lower floors - less reliance on the lift!

We stayed at this hotel for five nights in early August. We couldn't have picked a better location. Walking across Piazza Cavour we were at the Vatican in 15 - 20 minutes. We took our time because of the hot weather. In the opposite direction we crossed the Ponte Cavour and were at the Spanish steps and the Trevi Fountain in 15 minutes. On another occasion we walked across the bridge at Hadrian's tomb at arrived at Navona square again, in 15 - 20 minutes.
Found room 503 to be a nice size with lots of counter space in the bathroom. It had a balcony that looked out over the street and the rooftops so lots of privacy and no noise. There were linen sheets on the beds and lots of towels.
We particularly enjoyed the breakfast room with its outdoor patio. Fruit, juices ham, cheese, cereal, croissants, toast and flavorful coffee - different than what we're used to but good. As travellers it always feels good to meet staff who are welcoming and helpful. They made phone calls on our behalf for tours we were taking, made recommendations and gave directions to local restaurants and points of interest. We recommend this hotel. Its location and service are second to none. We'd go back without hesitation.

Room Tip: Room 503 is a nicely appointed, quiet room.

Arrived for four nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary in August. This is our second stay in the hotel and as always service was excellent. We had a room with large balcony with great views over Piazza Cavour and the rooftops of Rome. No noise from the street, even with the windows open. The breakfast was lovely as were the staff and what a treat to eat out on the terrace. The reception staff were all very helpful and charming. Free wifi was a bonus and I didn't have any problems with speed or access. You can print out your boarding passes in the foyer next to the breakfast room. I would definately recommend this hotel for visiting the Vatican area and for walks to the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain all easily manageable. There is a bus stop outside the hotel. Lots of nice restaurants and cafe bars in the area if you don't want to go into the City Centre. One minor thing, to have coffee facilities in the room, would make our next stay perfect. We will take the advice of one of the reception staff and visit at the beginning of October. Thank you everyone for making our visit wonderful.

Room Tip: If you want some outside space try room 500. We were street facing but experienced no street noise...

Arrived in August with the wife for 3 nights.
We arrived at the train station and decided to get a taxi rather than get on buses with our bags. It is only approximately €11-12 by taxi (we also got a taxi back as well).
We arrived early and were able to leave our bags and went for a coffee and quick wander. Arrived back at 2pm and were led to our room which already had our bags in. We stayed in 109 and this is a very large room, big bed, couch, tv, mini fridge! Bathroom was very nice and plenty of toiletries.
There is also free wifi throughout the hotel and rooms.
The staff at the hotel are all very nice and helpful and easily approachable.
Breakfast was okay, traditional continental with bread, pastries, cheese etc. tea and coffee brought to you and there are also juices.
Location of the hotel is excellent 5 minute walk to castelo st. angelo, did the evening entry and this is really good. Able to walk along the Borgia passageway without large crowds. There is also a concert, but didn't think too much of the music and there is limited seating. Another 10 minute walk is the Vatican.
Walking the opposite direction it is about 15 minutes to the trevi fountain and the pantheon a couple more minutes. We got the metro to the colloseum, this is a bit further but we walked back and is only really 30 minutes walk away. So from the hotel can walk to any attraction. The walk is also very nice as Rome is a very pretty city and they like their shopping with retail clothes shops everywhere (wife enjoyed that).
There is a really nice coffee style shop (also restaurant and bar) next door which did really nice macchiatos for €1.80, would recommend. Also a piazza next to the castelo st angelo which was also nice to just relax.
Would definitely stay at this hotel again, as will be back to Rome again.

Room Tip: Would recommend room 109

This is our 5th trip to Rome and we stayed always in Hotel Diplomatic. This is the best recommendation we can give.

The venue is very nice, staff is very kind. Best Hotel to discover Rome City Center, which is very close by (same for Vatican).

We'll be back soon...

I booked a room here using booking.com website. I got a really good price.
The staff were all extremely friendly. Breakfast was good. Room clean and spacious. Air conditioning worked really well. Great location, plenty of buses right outside. 10 min walk to piazza Navona. Shuttle bus to airport 5 mins walk away.
