Stayed here for 3 nights in mid June 2009 as part of a group sales meeting. When our PR person booked this hotel, the criteria was that it be a better than average hotel, in a quite place, WiFi in the rooms, and a pool or gym.
What we got was something else all together different. While this was at one time a great hotel, it is now a tired and worn down property. You still see remnents of a grand hotel with marble floors, deep and heavy wood everywhere. Ornate ceilings etc. Unfortunately, this is 2009 and not 1950.
There was no WiFi in the rooms and we all had to do our e-mails in the lobby. The pool was closed due to "technical" reasons. This is interesting as I just read other reviews and one that goes back to December 2008 also states that the pool had been closed for 2 months. So here we are, 8 months after it was closed and it is still closed.
The air conditioning in the room was very weak. Luckily the temperature is only 25-27 degrees C (77-82 F). Would definitely not want to be here in July and August.
For a hotel that costs from$350 - $600 per night, there was no doorman or anybody to help you with luggage or any maintenance at night.
We ahd asked for a quite hotel and if you were lucky to get a room facing back, it was. Unfortunately most rooms face Via veneto which is noisy all day long.
My room was large and my bed was huge. you could see that the furniture at one time was incredibly upscale but now was all worn out.
What this hotel did have is a great location. It is right on Via Veneto and within walking distance to most sights. Since the SPA area was closed, the Villa Borghese park is just up the street and great for running.
For the amount of money that we paid, there are many other hotels that are more updated and have better service. Unfortunately, Boscolo has purchased this property only to slap their name on it but are running it into the ground. It's a shame because there was another Boscolo hotel just down the street and looks like that the money was put into that one. Until they update this hotel, stay away or at least understand that is not worth more than $100 per night.
