My friend and I booked a deluxe room for a 3 night stay at the Boscolo Palace in September 2008. When we arrived we were given a room on the first floor which was facing onto the busy street. To say we were disappointed with the room is an understatement; this was not what we expected when we paid over £300 per night. We asked the receptionist what type of room we were in and she said it was a standard room and said that they had no deluxe rooms left and that we would be moved the next day. In addition, she said that we would be refunded the difference for the cost of the room for this night. If you are going to book this hotel ensure you have a room which is not on one of the lower floors facing the street on the front - it was so noisy. The next day we went to speak to the reception staff again who said that the receptionist from the night before was incorrect/lying and that we were in a deluxe room which we didn't believe for a second - it was really worst 4* room I have ever stayed in. Eventually the receptionist said that we could move to another room which was much nicer - still not 4* deluxe and the smell of smoke was really bad. At this point we had to sign an agreement to say that we were happy with the room and that we would not be asking for any compensation for the first night.

The location of the hotel is superb about 10 mins from the Spanish steps. Rome is really a wonderful city, very expensive but wonderful and would definitely return but would never stay in this hotel again.

Stayed at the Boscolo Palace in Rome last week on a family vacation. Checked in for two nights and left after one because the rooms were tired, musty, not very clean and the bathrooms were very grotty. The hotel looks truly 5 star on their website and this is completely misleading. We stayed at the Westin Excelsior the second night, more expensive but a much much better experience. I would not recommend the Boscolo Palace to anyone.

Overrated, expensive, rooms smelled, beds were terrible. Breakfast buffet was awful.

I only stayed one night because i arrived late in the day.

Further, they promised a refund, in writing, but despite multiple follow ups, have not honored their commitment.

Excellent location - just down the hill and round the corner to the Hop on, Hop off bus (which took you around all the tourist attractions for 18 euros per day), and next door to the Hard Rock cafe. Buffet breakfast a bit limited and repetative. No curtain on shower therefore we soaked the bathroom floor all the time. No tea & coffee in room. Hotel was clean and the decor was very interesting. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend this hotel to others.

I stayed at the "Grand Palace" for one night in October with a group of my colleagues. We had been very impressed with the Hotel's website and we weren't disappointed when we arrived as the reception and surrounding rooms seemed very oppulant and pleasant.

The problems started in the rooms. I had to complain as my bedlinen was soiled and quite obviously had not been changed from the night before. The staff were reluctant to change the linen and made me feel as though I was being unreasonable. In addition the showers were appalling, the water was never a constant temperature and quickly changed from tepid, to scalding hot to freezing cold. If you do plan to stay here it may be a good idea if you request a room with a bath to avoid this problem.

The food in the morning was not of a high standard and we ended up going elsewhere for breakfast.

I beleive that any visitors to Rome would find better value elsewhere as this hotel was unnecessarily expensive and not as ideally located for sightseeing as its website may suggest.
