My husband and I took a weeklong trip to Rome and our goal was to see as much as possible each day. Once we left the hotel for the day, we were out until after dinner. So with that in mind, the location (quiet neighborhood just north of Villa Borghese - Rome's equivalent of Central Park) wasn't an issue because we didn't have the need to go back and forth between the hotel during the day. If you want to be in the middle of everything (which I hear is incredibly noisy), then I would not recommend this hotel only because of the location.
We got a great rate on this hotel, and the breakfast alone probably saved us upwards of $30 a day. They really had great food at the buffet and it was nice to fill up for a long day of sightseeing. This was definitely one of the biggest perks to staying here.
The free shuttle will drop you off at one of the best hotels in Rome, a block from the Spanish steps. We also experimented with walking through Villa Borghese and heading west of Popolo to get to the Vatican, which was a lovely walk and we got to see some less touristy areas of Rome.
The rooms were clean and nice. It was our first time in Europe, but I've always heard that if you're looking for the equivalent of a nice US hotel, you'll pay an arm and a leg. So was it the Ritz? No. Was it nice and acceptable (especially given the rate)? Definitely. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to a friend, especially for what I would expect most people are looking for in Rome - a safe, clean place to spend the night with decent amentities. This is not a resort hotel, but that's not what we needed either.
