The hotel was average, the size of the double bedroom we stayed in was fit for hobbits so if you intend to stay here my advice is book a twin room- two people can stand in these rooms as the same time!
Reception staff were average. We stayed in October and for us it was very warm in our broom cupboard (bedroom) but the Hotel switch off the a/c in the winter so it was exceedingly uncomfortably hot during the night and they were unable to offer an alternative like elctric fans.
The breakfast was excellent and the waiting staff were extremely helpful.
Bar was very expensive G & T £8.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights on the last part of our honeymoon. We arrived and were not well greeted. When we got to our room it was discovered that it was not cleaned yet and it was about 3pm. We went down in the garden bar for an hour and had drinks and waited. After an hour, we went back up to the room, and found it was still not cleaned. We waited another half hour for the room to be ready.

We stayed in a standard room which i would not recommend getting. It was very very tiny with no view at all except trash down below. We were told it could not be switched. After staying in two great hotel rooms previously on our honeymoon we were a little let down.

The hotel garden bar is very nice, but very expensive. We stayed in Capri and Sorrento previously and the drinks at their hotels were much cheaper. I paid 5 euros for a tiny glass of Coke that wouldnt even amount to a can of soda. It was 7 euros for a tiny glass of limonchello. 15 euros for brunch.

The hotel staff was not as friendly as they were in the previous hotel rooms we stayed in. One night we tried to get a wine bottle opened for us at night so we could have a drink in our room, and we're told that they could not open it for us because their bar was closed, and it was not even 11 at night.

We had lunch one day there and it literally took 45 minutes for the waiter to finally bring us a menu after asking several times. It took another half hour to get our food. There is a difference between laid back, and just plain bad service.

Besides the hotel we loved Rome, we just would not come back to this hotel again! It was out of the way from all the main sites, and the metro closes at 11:30 so you would have to walk all the way back or take a cab. We will be back to Rome, just not to the hotel. Maybe we got it on a bad week, or they thought we looked young... who knows?

Excellent hotel, friendly staff, great breakfasts for the English especially.
The down side is the location, walking out of the hotel at night feels like you are walking into some dodgy abandoned area.
Rome is very safe but the walk home at night from the centre was very unerving.
To cap it all we were approached by scammers 3 x on the metro bridge by the hotel.
DO NOT CROSS THIS BRIDGE ALONE!
A well dressed man slowed down in his car asking for directions, then offered us free clothing samples because we were English then tried to pull me into the car as he shook my hand, obviously after watch-wallet etc. Then he tried to ask for petrol money, I sent him packing, the wife was taken in by his super friendly approach and would have been well had-off if I hadn't been there.
A few days later we crossed the bridge and a Moroccan in a car slowed down to ask for directions to the 'Vatican'.
'Go [--] yourself sent him packing and 5 seconds later the first guy reappears with a different car asking for directions to the Vatican again!
My threat of serious violence had him accelerating away.
Overall Rome is very-very safe, but I'll have to say the only time I felt threatened was returning to the hotel on foot.
Everywhere is closed and boarded up and you walk totally alone with occasional cars passing by. After the above experience this made me very wary indeed.

I did quite a bit of research before our italy trip. We had a budget so that excluded 3-4 star hotels with prime locations. I found Giulio Cesare on this site and couldn't be happier. Beautiful place. great room (smaller than US rooms but comfy).
staff was helpful with any questions. garden patio was a great way to end the day or late night drink. The breaksfast buffet was off the charts. Could not believe the options. great for Americans and Europeans. The price we paid on expedia was a steal!!
Yes, this hotel is about 5-7 minute walk from the so-called "heart of Rome" but its easy to walk to the action. 15 mins to Vatican and 10 mins to Piazza del Popolo and Via del Corso. and we got adventurous and took the metro just 3 blocks away..
if you don't have to be in the center of Rome, this is the place.
Just great!!!

We just returned from a stay at this hotel. It was elegant, refined and the rooms were spacious and extremely comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful, and friendly and the breakfast was awesome. I loved the location. It was in a residential part of the city, so it was quiet, yet convenient. I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone!!!
