This was a great hotel with very helpful staff. My aunt need an inhaler for her asthma (the one she brought with her broke) and they helped her locate a place where she could get one. The rooms were very comfortable, not a whole lot of space but nice bathroom. The location was decent but it was further from alot of the main attractions than I would have liked. I would definitely recommend staying there.

See the review of 19 June and believe it!

We had exactly the same problem. Travelocity told me on 3 separate occasions that we would be in the main hotel - we weren't. The second building is down the raod in a residential building - NOT a hotel. It is newly refurbished and very modern, but not what the rooms on the website look like. We wanted sumptuous furnishings but got ultra modern.

Going to breakfast made us feel like the poor relations visiting the hotel.

A shame really because the main hotel was super and the breakfast terrace breathtaking but we won't be going back because what we got was not what we thought what we were going to get.

DON'T GO HERE UNLESS YOU CAN BE GUARANTEED A ROOM IN THE MAIN HOTEL.

We stayed four nights and had a wonderful time. THe staff was helpful and nice. We had them send a car for us at the airport and even tho' we arrived before check in time, they had our rooms ready for us. The rooms were small, but lovely! The beds were more comforable than ours at home! THere is an electric teapot for water and coffee and a small fridge with those little bottles, but room for our stuff too. The room had quiet AC and was soundproofed so our parent's room on the street side was noiseless.
The rooftop breakfast was ample with a variety to choose from and the wait staff was very friendly and seemed happy to see us each additonal morning we were there. We had dinner there one night and the food was adequate.
THe neighborhood is not trendy, but I felt as safe as can be expected. There is a supermarket right across the street on the corner near the church, that is 2 story and has lots of great cheeses and whatever. The neighborhood restaurants were just OK, we did not do enough investigating about where to eat.
Free newspapers in a variety of languages, lnternet connection is pricey, but available. The desk will book tours for you-- we did the Greenline night tour and it was nice. Taxi stand is to the left of the church, metro and train station are an easy walk.
We highly recommend this hotel to you.

Both Golden Tulip hotels in Rome are really great but I especially like this one two doors down from Santa Maria Maggiore's front piazza. It is walking distance from the train station and very comfortable, friendly and helpful. Piero, one of the front desk staff members, is exceptional. During both two-day stays there this past few weeks, we found him to be consistently courteous and very attentive. The housekeeping staff was equally professional. There is a roof-top breakfast room which becomes a bar area at 5:00 p.m. each evening. It is now the only place I'll stay in Rome! TramTram Trattoria in the SanLorenzo section of the city is a terrific restaurant with a wonderful owner who waits on tables and carefully inspects each plate to insure that you are totally pleased with what you have ordered. The value for the money is well worth the trip to that area of the city, outside the walls. Paris restaurant in Trastevere was also quite a find but not as inexpensive as TramTram.

We stayed at the mercenate for 3 nights in August & can thoroughly recommend it to anyone. The rooms were very clean & despite the size there was plenty of storage for all our clothes/shoes etc. The consierge was most friendly & polite & the bar area's (downstairs & roof terrace) were a handy retreat.

I thought this hotel had a definate touch of class, aswell as being in a good location. I was slightly concerned about the breakfast after reading some of the reviews but I thought it was great (fresh fruit, bread, cheese, ham, fruit juice, cereal etc)

Overall I would definately recommend this hotel
