This hotel is ideally located just a five minute walk from the termini in Rome upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded to an executive room this was larger than those in the main building spotlessly clean with a small flat screen tv king size bed and jacuzzi in a very large bathroom. Reception staff were all very friendly and spoke english bar staff were a bit more difficult and seemed to not really want to be there but did mix an excellent if not very expensive cocktail 9 euro, beers were 6.50 euro. We were bed and breakfast which was a continental style buffet very good, 5 euros if you wanted bacon and eggs. Hotel was excellently placed for all the major sites and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay also a large selection of restaurants within walking distance.

The hotel is ok! I wasn't that crazy but it was reasonable for the price and service I received. The staff are friendly. I have asked them to book a taxi from Fiumicino Airport to the hotel for 50 euros. It will probably cost me 70-80 euro if I took a taxi from the airport, they were really helpful. The breakfast is elegant, however I expect more for a 4 star hotel you have to pay for eggs and sausages separately. They do have ham or chorizo instead. But I do like to be full in the morning especially if you know you have to walk all day to see the Collesium and Vatican City. The room and bathroom are very spacious!
The place is well located to major attractions like Collesium which is 15-20 minutes walk and Trevi Fountain, don't miss this in the night. The beautiful church, St. Maria Maggiore is just in front of your hotel you would like to see that before you go. Also, my advice to all travellers is to take Ciao Sightseeing bus where the main office is just opposite the church. It will take you to all major attractions and they run up to 7pm. Also, the hotel is located to many restaurants around the area.

This was our fourth stay at the Mercenate Palace in the past 10 years. The hotel is four blocks south of the Rome Termini station, it takes 5 minutes to walk to the station. We had a large Superior room on the 5th floor (the same one as our last visit there) which faced the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore. The Superior rooms are large. I booked the room on-line directly, The rate was lowest I have paid in the last 10 years. We could have stayed for 5 nights for the price I paid for 4 nights. There is a grocery store in the basement of the stores right across the street.

The hotel has cut back on amenities compared to our last visit there in 2005. There were no candies on the pillows on the first night and they didn't turn down the beds on our last two nights there. There also seemed to be a few less items set out at breakfast than four years ago.

We had a bottle of Diet Coke and a plastic bag with mini-carrots in the minibar fridge. The maid left a pre-printed note on the first day that guests were absolutely forbidden to place their food or beverages in the minbar. When I mentioned this to the front desk clerk at first he didn't know what I was talking about but then said they had problems with confusion as to what was in the minibar to begin with and the guests' stuff. He said they could empty the minibar of the hotel items but they never did this. The way around this was to take our stuff out of the minibar in the morning and put it back in after the room was attended to.

Other than that I would stay here on our next visit to Rome.

Just returned from two night whistlestop trip to Rome. Hotel Mecenate palace is located about a 5 minute walk from the termini station and opposite Santa Maria Maggiore. The collosseum is about a 15 minute walk away and the metro is based at the station. We had a twin room in the apartment building which was extremely spacious, clean and warm. The breakfast was continental but plenty of it and more than enough to set you up for the day. There are plenty of pastry/ sanwich bars, restaurants and supermarket located on this piazza and the area feels safe. The reception staff are extremely polite and helpful and I would recomend this hotel to anyone.

We stayed at the hotel from the 28th to the 31st of January 2009.
The hotel was very hospitable; the front desk staff couldn’t do enough for you whether it was a simple location on the free map or an advice of where to eat.
The bar man was very helpful and a very nice person to talk to. He knew how to make you feel comfortable with a drink.
The breakfast was ok and very well presented; you can eat as much as you like. I can recommend the bacon and eggs but you have to pay extra for that.
The coffee was very rich not strong if you are British, stick with tea; also go early for breakfast as between 9:30 and 10 you might have to wait 5 minutes before you get a table.
The room 402 was very comfortable with everything you need.
We always came back to find the room clean and tidy with all bathroom consumables replenished.
You can even listen to the radio in the bathroom.
We used the taxi service from the airport this I wouldn’t recommend as the car was scruffy, the back suspension was banging about. We mentioned this to the hotel and they contacted the hire company they said they were sorry and gave us a discount on the return trip, the same car turned up. Amazing.
So not advisable, especially at the price.
When I go back to Rome I will use this hotel again Just a shame about the car.
