Hi Have just returned from Rome booked our hotel through priceline.
The Mecenate Palace Hotel is ok I wasn't overcome with a wow factor when we arrived, in fact when they showed us to our room we thought they were joking have seen bigger broom cupboards.
The bed was so small and squashed up against the wall so I felt very closed in. My husband ad I are not big people but even so it was a squeeze. We tried to get a bigger room but thay had nothing till the next day we paid an extra 30 Euro's for the upgrade but to be honest it was hardly worht it.
The staff were friendly and helpful no complaints there.
One word of warning on our first day there we went out for a pizza for lunch my husband ordered a beer & I a glass of wine they ended up bringing us a bottle because apparently some Restaurant's do not serve it by the glass so check before ordering!
Secondly on another day out we returned to the hotel and next door is a cafe we thought we will stop and have a coffee and cake. Two coffee's & two small cakes came to 28 EURO'S we thought they must have got our bill wrong but no it was correct so you have been warned.
Enough of the moaning now Rome is beautiful the ladies are chic and the men are handsome the architecture is amazing. Metro cost 1 Euro to anywhere and the sightseeing bus cost us 23 Euro's each but we had it for 3 days it includes a map and ear phones so whilst you are being driven around this beautiful city you have commentry on the way.

This hotel is centrally located in Rome, a good location near the train station. The breakfast was the worst we experienced in Italy. The staff was not helpful at all.At the time of check out I was presented a bill in euros and the credit card receipt was in USD at a conversion of 1.41 USD/Euro. The rate on that day was 1.35USD/Euro. I asked for a receipt in Euros and was refused and told it was automatic. The increased cost to me was around 30 USD. clearly a scam on the hotel's part. As the cab to the airport was waiting I did not have time to deal with the management on this. I would not recommend this hotel.

We are a middle aged couple who asked our travel agent for a higher priced hotel (not deluxe) for four nights in Rome for our first time trip.

The rooms were small, well appointed and more than a little dirty, but worst of all was the help given by the front desk. Asked for a map, they gave us a free tourist sheet and then in so many words told us to "get lost."

When pressed for the bus number to a particular site bus stop location, they gave us completely wrong information!

They made their impatience and distain evident to us in no uncertain terms.

They told us breakfast was NOT included even though our voucher said that it was.

For the price of this tired, run-down property in a not so great location, one should be able to do much better.

PS. We met another couple at the same hotel who had almost the identical experience; we'll let them write their own review.

Just got back,Rome is a great city to explore.
Flew Rynair then on the terravision coach to the train station then a 5 minute walk.Arrived at the MECENATE PALACE with our friends only to be told our rooms were unavailable until the next day! Theyarranged a taxi witch took us to the Mediterrano a art deco hotel that does a lovely breakfast.
The next day moved back, the rooms were very nice and clean as was the bathroom.Breakfast was on the roof terrace not much of a spread but they did have tea and coffee in the rooms.
the location is very good for the attractions. The MARIA MAGGIORE CHURCH across the road is a must superb.
We did all the sites walking and came across some lovely bars and cafes

We spent one night at the Mercenate Palace as we arrived in Italy enroute to Tuscany. We read mixed reviews of this hotel which was one of three suggested by our travel agent. Since we were only staying for one night and needed a hotel close to the Roma Terminali, we decided on the Mercenate. We couldn't have been more satisfied with our choice.

Our room overlooked the piazza and Santa Maria Maggiore. It was very attractive with a lovely marble bath. The bed was comfortable. The room had ample closet space for our suitcases.

The breakfast area was lovely--at the top of the hotel and overlooking the rooftops of Rome. There was an extensive buffet containing a variety of items to suit any taste.

We loved the bar on the top floor where we had cocktails and watched the sun set over Rome. Be sure to order the assorted appetizers which were extraordinarily good and reasonably priced.

The staff were pleasant and helpful with dinner suggestions and reservations.

Altogether a great place to stay.

One other suggestion--if you are going to the train terminal forget the taxi--we could have gotten there twice as fast had we walked!!! It is only a few blocks but we were intimidated by three suitcases and a lot of people on the street. What we did not take into account was how the traffic blocked progress of the taxi. We regreted out decision and advise others to simply walk. It will definately be faster.

If you want a recommendation for dinner, try Trattoria Cecio--only a couple of blocks away and a great little place to eat dinner. The hotel can provide directions.
