Good location inside the original Rome wall. Near Villa Borghese. £5.00 in a taxi from the terminus (where the airport shuttles arrive/depart) taxi recommended as slightly up hill, but can walk it, we did there, but decided on taxi back. Rooms spotless nicely appointed with small balcony. Nice public areas reception lounges. Breakfast was fine to set you up for the day. Hotel staff very helpful. Can walk to all attractions but nearest Spanish steps. Felt safe in hotel - two ladies travelling alone. Local restaurents used by locals, good pizza's. Definitely would stay here again well worth the little extra money.

Hotel Victoria was an incredibly clean & spacious hotel. The bathroom was spotless & the bed was comfortable. There is a rooftop terrace which is quite nice (even went up there in Dec), as well as a restaurant & bar. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but the bar service was nice. It is in walking distance to many attractions, although it said it was in the spanish steps area, which is actually a 20 min. walk away. Lovely hotel, I would highly recommend it if you find a good deal.

Ok,
First the good. This hotel is quite clean, and the restaurant had reasonable prices. Also, the room rates here are significantly less than the luxury hotels just a block away on the Via Veneto. I would also recommend this to anyone without children, and who don't mind a few "issues" and want to be close to the Via Veneto. I agree with other reviewers that "La Bruscetta" was a good restaurant just SW of the hotel. There is also a rather large two story restaurant to the East that was quite good.

Now for the "issues".
#1) This hotel is used by the big tour groups like "Perillo". When the bus pulls up, the already over worked front desk comes to a grinding halt. We needed access to the only computer for the internet in the lobby, and they just told us "it was broken". It wasn't they just didn't want to deal with us when a tour group was checking in. Not good if you need to depart for a flight.

2) They initally gave us an outdated and unsafe baby crib from probably the 1930's. At first I thought oh well, we'll make do, then I realized, wait a minute this is the EU and there are standards, and the last four hotels gave us exactly the same crib. So after much fuss with the front desk and after telling me they didn't have any, I said we'd most likely have to find another hotel for safety concerns - they magically produced the standard crib.

3) On your last day, watch out for the "airport taxi" scam. I'm pretty sure the front desk at all hotels get commission kickbacks for "private hire" cars, so here's how it works. Your checking out and say you need a taxi to the airport, two of there bellman said "oh would you like a private car?" I asked how much, and they said " Oh, its the same as a taxi, about 65 Euros". I said "wait a minute were going to CIAMPINO, and I"m pretty sure this airport is only 18 miles from here. They insisted it was the same distance as Fiumicomo, and I should take there suggested private car. They play this game, because they know you have a limited amount of time, and might just say yes to them. Well, we took the taxi, arrived in 23 minutes, and it only cost 28 Euros. That's enough to leave you steaming!!!!

#4) Room condition. The shower head was broken, and the mini bar latch was broken. Our toddler could constinently open the bar, so we had to put a chair in front of it. The door to the bathroom hit the floor, so anytime we had to use the bathroom at night, it woke everyone else up. After politely asking for a repair, they fixed the shower head - that was it. The minibar needed 1 minute with a screwdriver, same for the door.

So again, if I were 25 and single, or staying with just one other person, and on a budget- this hotel should be just fine. It's just not perfect.

The Victoria Hotel is truly a great place to stay in Rome. I could possibly and positively state that this hotel was one of the best parts of my visit to Rome this week.
The room was not large but very clean and well maintained, the bathroom very large, new and very very clean. Breakfast was simple but if you remember to ask for a cappuccino instead of the standard hotel coffee you have an instant upgrade for the day. It's a nice place I would easily recommend.
Being situated on the far side of central Rome is the only drawback to this hotel. Either you walk a lot, back and forth, or your taxi bills add fast and high, especially when going out to dine at night.
The staff is friendly and helpful.
Rome was funny enough - they just try to rip you off on every step no matter what you do. And it is EXPENSIVE. Big time.

The Hotel Roma was in an interesting location at the top of the Via Vittorio Veneto and essentially across the street from the Borghese Gardens (it was a very short walk).

The rooms are a little on the smaller side compared to other hotels we stayed at in Venice and Florence, but it was very clean and the bathroom was tight, but you could move around without hitting any fixtures. The beds were a bit hard and the sheets were so tight you had to untuck them to be comfortable.

The breakfast room was ok, it is on two levels. The staff were not terribly accomodating - we had a part of 6 and always had to split up 4 and 2 and sometimes they would leave you standing waiting to show you to a table. Food was ok - not quite sure how they got the eggs to be that slightly orange color...but they tasted fine.

The desk staff were not very outgoing. They would answer a direct question, but that was it - no offering of advice or suggestions.

The roof garden was very pretty, it was a bit hard to get a drink up there - you had to go down to the bar and cajole the barman to bring up the drinks.

Several excellent restaurants in the neighborhood.
